Not useful, but extremely situational at best. Protection of a big ship against a PvPer who likes to camp at your belly or top and fire at point blank range, for example. A class 2 turreted frag cannon would really ruin his day, if only the AI knew how to use it with restraint. Multicrew would be better. And even then, if he is also armed with frags he could do more damage to you than a class 2 turret could.

As I said, extremely situational.
