New page

That's an important consideration to make, sure. A well-armed Viper or a Cobra is actually enough to defend against anything short of a coordinated small fleet, though; it's more important (and most effective) to learn to maneuver within the blind spots of ships that outclass you than it is to try and outclass them with sheer firepower. While an Anaconda could pack a bigger punch, so to speak, it would be generally wasted on anything you're actually likely to encounter. (Also, on a side note: you're much less likely to be bothered by either NPCs or players if you mine outside Resource Extraction Sites. The controlling faction of the system can make an enormous difference in NPC presence, as well). Carrying a Shield Cell Bank in any ship with 2 medium hardpoints or above is usually enough to guarantee a win vs. any other NPC ship (or three). If players mine-ganking you is your biggest concern, realistically your survival is going to depend primarily on your overall preparation, awareness, and ability to use asteroids strategically - and a bit of luck, depending on what you're piloting vs what your opponent's piloting. One downside to having an Anaconda, for instance, is that just about any Eagle, Viper, Cobra or Python with decent guns and awareness of your blind spot can pretty much take you out with minimal risk if you don't see them coming and take them out before they get too close - and you'll encounter a lot more of those ships in mining areas than you will the larger, slower traders or fleet ships.

If you wanted to, you could make an Anaconda work for mining... it would be overkill on some fronts, and a significant risk on others, but hell - who cares? If blowing up Asteroids in an enormous space-tank is fun enough to be worth it, then I say go for it. (And share your feedback when you get there! =)
