The problem with game balance is that multicannons only really have one downside in combat: they're more like trying to saw someone to death with a hacksaw, but lots of hacksaws at once is still pretty deadly. Mount 7 gimbal multicannons on an 'vette and its '''effective''' DPS is huge with no clear downsides - no need to get up close like frags, no distributor or range problems like lasers, no missing like railguns and plasma and cannons. Engineer it and it gets stupidly OP.

Ammo costs, ammo limits, reload etc etc could be downsides but really don't really mean much except when grinding for bounties or rating. For balance, someone needs to invent a downside against having an all m-cannon loadout.

...but we already know about shield tanks. Shield tanks are the natural enemy of all-brrt loadouts.
