While any of the Mods to the base DSS Are an upgrade (Minimal at that dor the Wide mod) for any heavier ship that doesnt feel the mass change, I feel that the superior scanner after rolling the fast-scan for a few hundred jumps is that this mod, the Long range, is the better option. It allows you to hover above the System ring and easily scan most bodies without becoming trapped in their grav-wells. The Fast-scan really rinses out a simple star scan as you drop in, but Long Range offers the most versatility, scanning most stars from 20k+ ls away (estimated) and many Gas giants from 2k-4k LS away opens up the travel time somewhat so Completing a system doesnt take so long (sans moons) and should increase your profits per time invested.
Most rocky/metal planets will scan at 25-40ls normally, the long range (maxed) makes that  at least 75-120ls.

Certainly increases the number of planets that are immediately scannable upon exiting the FSD jump and scooping the main star.
