I have put on two huge beam lasers, and filled the rest with multi-cannons (that i have just spent hours and hours finding the materials to make grade 5 modifications on with engineers).

With the new npc A.I. i dont really get the face to face firefights i used to, more often its just passing attack runs. For that reason i tried to focus on hitting hard and fast, so i choose the beams over say pulse or multi-cannon.

I have an 8A Power Distributer and with 4 pips i can fire for 7 seconds (which feels longer that it sounds) and with 0 pips its about 4 seconds. This seems perfect though as firing for 7 seconds with both takes my heat from 46% to 84%, and recharging weapons power gives my ship time to cool down.

On top of that, i dont think you'll find something much more destructive than two huge beam lasers, i use gimballed and they absolutely wreck. I tend to wait until the enemy is closer than 2km, then my lasers take down their shields in seconds, even anacondas. Plus hull will just melt to them. All my multi-cannons barely use much of my distributer so i use them to do substantial damage to hull while my lasers recharge, plus i have a corrosive modification on one of them which makes the enemy ship take more damage, very effective.

Anyway after a lot of playing around this is what i have found to be the most effective (and fun).
