=== For use on main page ===

;Content split
When '''two or more topics''' are being dealt with on the same page which share the same or similar title and a [[Wikipedia:Disambiguation|disambiguation page]] seems appropriate use {{tl|Split}}:
{{Split}}
* Place the template at the top of the page for which the split is proposed.
* By default, the discussion is directed to the talk page of the page on which this tag is placed. Optionally, {{para|discuss}} can be added to direct the discussion to another page. Example: {{tlx|split|discuss{{=}}Talk:{{var|Foobar}}#Split proposal}}, produces:
{{split|discuss=Talk:Foobar#Split proposal}}
* Optionally, you can include suggested titles for between 2 and 20 new pages as parameters. Example: {{tlx|split|{{var|New title 1}}|{{var|New title 2}}}}, produces:
{{split|New title 1|New title 2}}
* Add the date parameter {{para|date|{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}}} to place articles in [[:Category:Articles to be split from {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}]]

;Size split
When an article is too long, and it is uncertain how the article should be split, use {{tl|Very long}}:
{{Very long}}
*When there is a suggested new article name for some content use {{tl|Split}} with {{para|{{var|New article name}}}}:
{{Split|New article name}}
*When an article series is proposed, use {{tl|Split}} with multiple titles:
{{Split|List of subject, A–M|List of subject , N–Z}}
{{Split|Subject in Africa|Subject in the Americas|Subject in Asia and the Pacific|Subject in Europe}}

When '''a disambiguation page''' needs splitting use {{tl|Split dab}}:
{{Split dab}}

For '''sections''', use:

* {{tl|Split section}}
{{Split section}}
* {{tl|Splitsections}} - can specify multiple destination articles
{{Splitsections}}
* {{tl|Move portions}} - for migrating portions of a section
{{Move portions}}
* {{tl|Move section portions}} - for a less disruptive tag:
{{Move section portions}}

=== For use on talk page ===
* {{tl|Copied}} (for both source & destination) - {{tlx|Copied|from{{=}} |from_oldid{{=}} |to{{=}} |to_diff{{=}} |to_oldid{{=}}}}
{{Copied|from=Foo|to=Bar}}
* {{tl|Split article}} (supporting multiple splits from the same page) - {{tlx|Split article|from{{=}} |from_oldid{{=}} |to{{=}} |diff{{=}} |date{{=}} }} {{Split article|demo=yes|from=Foo|to=Bar}}

=== During and after splitting ===
* {{tl|Being split}} - {{tlx|Being split|{{var|Destination}}}}
{{supcat{{Being split|Destination}}}}
* {{tl|Cleanup split}} - {{tlx|Cleanup split|{{var|Destination}}}}
{{Cleanup split|Destination}}
