Just hit Broker.
As I was approaching the 33,779,000 that the wiki listed, I made one trade at a time, each time increasing profit by 1016 credits (waiting for the numbers to update in the Status > Statistics screen). One thing that affects this is that there's a delay between selling something and the number in Statistics being updated (seems like about a minute).
At 33,778,259 - was Merchant
Made a trade, bringing it up to 33,779,275 - was still listed at Merchant.
Made another trade, bringing my total profit to 33,780,291 (this wasn't shown in Trading Profit yet though). I closed the Status window and when I opened it again, my rank was Broker but my Trading Profit in statistics hadn't updated yet - it still said 33,779,275. A minute or so later, it changed to 33,780,291.
So there are two possibilities I see:
1 - Broker is reached at 33,779,000 but the rank changeover is delayed.
2 - Broker is reached at 33,780,000 immediately upon making the trade (before the Trading Profit number has been updated in Statistics).
In both cases, it changes independently of the number listed for Trading Profit (they don't change at the same time).
As a side-note, I have zero profit from mining and 3,017,372 black market profit.
