There's a reason for it though--a financial one. You and I have already paid for the game. Granted, maybe once in awhile we kick in a little here and there for a paintjob or T-shirt or whatever, but that's iffy. So they'll make a lot more money drawing in new customers by saying, "Look! You can get this ship almost immediately!" than they can by saying, "Look! You can kick ass in this massively expensive ship after a month of hardcore grinding, or half a year of casual play!"
