It doesn't ! I have top rank in both Federation and Empire now. No rank in Alliance yet, but you can get Allied and it might help in the future, althought I read somewhere that the reputation degrades with time back to Neutral if you do not work at it.
While I understand and agree with Penthux in theory, I can also think of many realistic reasons why it could make sence.
Being a Post Commander might sound impressive, but it is not a public position and I don't actually feel "important" in the federation !
So, with the factions being as big as they are, spread out over such a large space, and barely able to control what is happening in their onw corner of it, they probably wouldn't know of you position in the ofther factions unless you somehow became a celebrity.
Even if they did, they might not care because of you insignificance , after all, you have no dicisional power or privilege information on them or the opposing factions !
Or they might hope to be able to exploit that relationship in the future !!!
