...I'll prove them wrong about the Sidewinder not being a useful explorer, by paying Beetlejuice a visit! :D
The advice that you need a shield generator is a bit misleading. Shields only protect against kinetic damage like weapons and physically bumping into something. Which is something you really don't put yourself through too often in deep space.
