'''Azimuth Biochemicals''' was a [[corporation]] based in the Chukchan system that was originally active in the early 3100s. According to available records, it was eventually acquired by a rival corporation, [[Pharmasapien]], but both companies dissolved long before the 34th century. Azimuth sought to uncover alien technology in order to produce and sell powerful new weapons, and to that end it dispatched deep-space probes to various regions including the [[Coalsack Nebula]] and the area around [[Barnard's Loop]]. The corporation was also rumoured to maintain its own private army.

In 3111, Azimuth contracted a scientific team led by Professor [[Penelope Carver]] to survey the Coalsack Nebula. When Carver's expedition encountered [[Thargoid]] technology on Musca Dark Region PJ-P b6-1 3, Azimuth dispatched a [[megaship]], the [[Adamastor]], to retrieve the team and their samples and transport them to a secure facility. The Adamastor was not seen again until October 29, 3306, when it reentered Chukchan on autopilot, devoid of any traces of its crew.<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-stones.557446/page-2#post-8770066 Frontier Forums: "The Stones", post #24]</ref><ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/5f9aabdbc0aca338d54b3b26 GalNet: 'Ghost Ship' Arrives in Chukchan System]</ref> Azimuth also owned a second megaship, the [[Hesperus]], which disappeared after setting out for the [[Barnard's Loop]] region in 3113 and was found in Perseus Dark Region KC-V c2-2 on April 10, 3307.<ref name="GMTA">[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/6048c2093f1eb018c339555a GalNet: Galactic Mysteries: The Adamastor]</ref> The [[Proteus]], a limited-range exploration craft carried by the Hesperus, discovered both Thargoid and [[Guardian]] artefacts in Trapezium Sector YU-X c1-2 in July 3113, but was unable to contact Azimuth or return home. Independent pilots located the Proteus on June 11, 3307 after following the Hesperus's original travel route at the direction of an individual known only at the time as [[Salvation]], who believed Azimuth's findings could prevent humanity's extinction.

Azimuth was contracted to the [[Intergalactic Naval Reserve Arm]], where it was represented by a research team led by Azimuth's vice-president of research, Caleb Wycherley, (the true identity of Salvation). Under Wycherley, Azimuth assisted the INRA's development of the infamous [[Mycoid]] bioweapon<ref>[https://canonn.science/codex/iraxon-lane/ Iraxon Lane | Canonn Research Group]</ref>.

The discovery of [[Project Seraph]] and its ties to [[Black Flight]] in August 3307 provided evidence that Azimuth's acquisition and dissolution may have been a deception orchestrated to allow it to continue its work in total secrecy up to the present day. However, the acquisition was real, and Wycherley ensured key assets and personnel were removed from company records prior to the acquisition. Wycherley's research division continued their research in secret, free from shareholders and corporate espionage. Following an analysis of wreckage and records recovered from the [[Alexandria]], which was sabotaged by Azimuth, under the orders of an individual known as the [[Witch]], (later revealed to be another alias of Wycherley) to obtain its cargo of Guardian artefacts, in January 3308, the multinational xenological research organisation [[Aegis]] concluded that Azimuth yet survived and warned that the corporation's aggressive pursuit of xeno-technology could put more lives at risk.

On June 20, 3308, [https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/azimuth-resurgent Salvation announced] that Taurus Mining Ventures was a "modern incarnation of Azimuth Biochemicals", and rebranded the corporation as [[Azimuth Biotech]], claiming that "Azimuth has no further need to conceal its operations"<ref>[https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/azimuth-resurgent Azimuth Resurgent - Elite Dangerous: Odyssey]</ref>.

*The Alliance, Empire and Federation will continue collaborating with Salvation and Azimuth Biotech on anti-xeno operations. Political journalist Conrad Sterling reviewed the latest developments for Vox Galactica: “We now know the truth: Azimuth not only survived, but was responsible for many controversial activities. It contributed to the mycoid virus’s development, coordinated with Black Flight and oversaw Project Seraph. Now, this notorious organisation enjoys the trust of all three superpowers to eliminate the Thargoid threat.” “Vocal members of the Assembly, Congress and Senate have called for everyone at Azimuth Biotech – formerly Taurus Mining Ventures – to be arrested as criminals. Professor Alba Tesreau has demanded justice for the crew of the Alexandria, which was sabotaged by Azimuth to obtain its cargo of Guardian artefacts.” “But Allied, Federal and Imperial leaders have all deferred to their militaries to determine a course of action until the current war’s end. Their perspective can be summed up by Admiral Maxton Price’s comment: ‘Without Salvation’s superweapon, we will be locked in conflict with the Thargoids forever.’” “Many still claim that the INRA outpost at DG Canum Venaticorum was faked by Aegis loyalists. Others noted that Salvation did not confirm that he is Caleb Wycherley, and is potentially a far younger man building upon his predecessor’s research.” “The reality is that the momentum of Salvation’s campaign is now too strong to be diverted. As is often the case during wartime, legality and morality have been set aside to focus on achieving victory. Azimuth has done more than just survive: it has triumphed.”<ref>[https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/superpowers-stand-azimuth GalNet: Superpowers Stand with Azimuth]</ref>

*Salvation has announced that his partner organisation Taurus Mining Ventures is a modern incarnation of Azimuth Biochemicals. The revelation came via a public statement across all media channels: “This is Salvation. In light of recent speculation, we are rebranding Taurus Mining Ventures as Azimuth Biotech. My intent is to prove that Azimuth has no further need to conceal its operations.” “Two centuries ago, Azimuth’s pioneers first acquired evidence of the alien creatures now referred to as Thargoids. My research division focused exclusively on studying this life form and preparing for the inevitable inter-species conflict. When Azimuth Biochemicals was commercially overtaken by Pharmasapien over a century ago, I ensured key assets and personnel were removed from company records prior to the acquisition. We continued our research in secret, free from shareholders and corporate espionage.” “Since then, my team has led multiple projects to develop necessary advancements for the inevitable war. Our work with INRA on the mycoid virus was one early success. More recently, locating the Proteus in Trapezium Sector YU-X c1-2 provided us with a key breakthrough in weaponising Guardian technology.” “My anti-xeno superweapon has already saved billions of lives. Azimuth Biotech is currently developing the next generation of this weapon, with which I intend to permanently cripple the Thargoid war machine.” “Caleb Wycherley is no more, but his accomplishments laid the foundations for the man I have become. A man whose life goal has always been to save humanity from extinction.”<ref>[https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/azimuth-resurgent GalNet: Azimuth Resurgent]</ref>

*Claims that Salvation was once a senior member of Azimuth Biochemicals who worked for INRA have led to a public outcry. Political journalist Conrad Sterling reported on these developments for Vox Galactica: “Information recently uncovered in the DG Canum Venaticorum system has been presented by Professor Alba Tesreau. It suggests that Salvation’s real name is Dr Caleb Wycherley, former vice-president of research at Azimuth Biochemicals. According to Wycherley’s personal logs, his team contributed to the development of the controversial mycoid bioweapon deployed by INRA during the First Thargoid War.” “Wycherley’s logs also provide evidence that he gained the nickname of ‘The Witch’. This figure has been implicated in the murderous attack on the Alexandria megaship in June 3307 and in Project Seraph recordings found in the HIP 26176 and HIP 22460 systems.” “Former Aegis leadership has demanded that Salvation be arrested and questioned over his involvement in these events, and that superpower fleet support for Salvation’s work be suspended until such questions have been answered.” Supporters of Salvation have dismissed the latest logs as fake, pointing out that Dr Wycherley would now be over 200 years old and that the mention of ‘salvation’ is coincidental. But outrage remains high over the unethical activities of both Azimuth and INRA, and Salvation’s growing influence over anti-Thargoid operations has been cast in a new light. “The Alliance, Empire and Federation have all responded with noncommittal statements that the accusation will be investigated,” said Sterling. “However, since Salvation’s unique superweapons now form the cornerstone of their anti-xeno strategy, his arrest would be a major political and military inconvenience.”<ref>[https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/aegis-arrest-salvation-murder GalNet: AEGIS: ‘ARREST SALVATION FOR MURDER’]</ref>

*The leaders of [[Aegis]] have formally petitioned the [[Alliance]], [[Empire]] and [[Federation]] to reform the anti-xeno organisation. Although all three superpowers are in the process of building their own taskforces to replace Aegis, they have been unable to assist against a recent surge of [[Thargoid]] [[incursion]]s. Chief Administrator [[Carter Armstrong]] gave a statement to the press: "Surviving members of the leadership council have submitted an appeal to reverse the decision to disband Aegis. The essence of our case is that the superpowers are currently distracted by various internal situations, but the Thargoids care nothing for our politics and must be met with a unified show of force. Aegis support ships have recently been repurposed by other crews in several regions, including the Dan, HIP 12314 and Nauni systems. But they could have been operated officially by our trained personnel, if only we were allowed to do our job. In addition to the increasing Thargoid threat, the rediscovery of the [[Alexandria]] in the Wregoe TC-X B29-0 system proves that Azimuth still exists. This sinister group slaughtered four thousand people to obtain [[Guardian]] artefacts, and we have logs proving it performed unlicensed xenological research in recent years. Aegis could provide centralised opposition to these criminals as well as defending against alien attack."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/621f612f738e957f724d21e0 GalNet: Aegis Demands Reinstatement]</ref>
07 FEB 3308
*Shutdown procedures for the anti-xeno organisation are continuing, despite [[Aegis]]'s warnings that Azimuth has returned. [[Conrad Sterling]] reported on the situation for [[Vox Galactica]]: "We now know that the [[Alexandria]] megaship was targeted by a hostile force that could be Azimuth Biochemicals, the 200-year-old corporation which owned the [[Adamastor]] and [[Hesperus]]. In the face of this new evidence, Aegis leaders have petitioned for it to be reinstated. Even while accounting for this new evidence, the [[Paul Baumann|Baumann Report]] has exposed a litany of organisational failures within Aegis. There is still a broad consensus among politicians that the organisation should have done more to repel the [[Thargoid]]s. Many senior military figures have switched focus to Aegis's controversial rival [[Salvation]], despite his mysterious nature. As one [[Imperial Navy]] admiral succinctly put it: 'Salvation's methods have proved more effective in counteracting the Thargoid threat.' The issue of military staff defections also appears to have been resolved. [[Alliance]], [[Federation|Federal]] and [[Empire|Imperial]] fleets have opened channels of secondment, allowing naval crews to voluntarily take positions aboard Salvation's vessels without resigning their commissions. However, one of Aegis's requests has been authorised. There will be a public ceremony to posthumously award medals of honour to Captain [[Jacob Morales]] and the four thousand people who lost their lives aboard the Alexandria."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/620107f4e5510241a42989bd GalNet: The Fall of Aegis]</ref>
31 JAN 3308
*Information recovered from the [[Alexandria]] has prompted [[Aegis]] to insist that it was not responsible for the loss of the [[megaship]]'s crew and cargo. The wreckage of the Alexandria was recently located in the Wregoe TC-X B29-0 system. There were no survivors, but fragments of the commanding officer's log were found. Chief Administrator [[Carter Armstrong]] published this statement on behalf of Aegis: "The logs made by Captain [[Jacob Morales]] tell a bleak tale. The Alexandria was deliberately sabotaged to leave it stranded and powerless. They were met by an unidentified group posing as a rescue team, who slaughtered most of the crew and hijacked the [[Guardian]] artefacts. The survivors later made a desperate attempt to initiate the [[hyperdrive]], which sadly led to their destruction. We can now prove that the Alexandria's loss was not caused by negligence, as claimed by the [[Paul Baumann|Baumann Report]]. In reality, the megaship was snared in a trap laid by an organised quasi-military force. Furthermore, Captain Morales discovered that the raiders worked for someone they referred to as 'the [[Witch]]'. That name was mentioned in logs discovered at [[HIP 22460]] regarding [[Project Seraph]] – vile experiments perpetrated by Azimuth researchers to install human test pilots into [[Thargoid]] vessels. This evidence suggests that Azimuth Biochemicals has survived in some form over the last two hundred years, and remains focused on aggressive xenological research. Aegis must be reinstated immediately to counter this dangerous organisation before more lives are lost."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/61f7efc4178bf54c8d5f609d GalNet: 'Azimuth has Survived' Warns Aegis]</ref>
05 JAN 3308
*The military trial of Admiral [[Aden Tanner]] has been suspended following evidence provided by [[Ram Tah]] as a witness for the defence. The [[Federal Navy]] tribunal was called to consider multiple charges – including mutiny – held against Tanner, the chief military liaison to [[Aegis]]. While commanding the Musashi [[megaship]], he attempted to gain access to Hind Mine station and locate evidence regarding [[Salvation]]'s [[anti-xeno superweapon]]. Admiral Tanner's defence attorney opened a live link with Phoenix Base to allow Ram Tah to provide the following testimony: "We have analysed the [[Classified Experimental Equipment|classified experimental equipment]] that was recently delivered to enable Salvation's superweapons. These components are near-identical to devices found at the [[Proteus]] research facility on Trapezium Sector YU-X c1-2. In 3113, an Azimuth Biochemicals science team conducted weapons testing using [[Guardian]] artefacts from this site, accidentally triggering a radiation surge which resulted in their deaths. My hypothesis is that Salvation has constructed large-scale versions of the Proteus design. These generate a powerful electromagnetic pulse at frequencies which disrupt the [[Thargoid]]s' bio-mechanical technology. It's highly probable that this is based on an existing Guardian weapon discovered by the Proteus. This would explain why its presence within a system attracts Thargoid vessels." The Federal Navy Criminal Court announced that Admiral Tanner's court martial has been temporarily suspended while the new evidence is reviewed.<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/61bc639f33cc6e11ad79652d GalNet: Ram Tah's Revelations Halt Court Martial]</ref>
29 DEC 3307
*Continuing a series of articles by historian [[Sima Kalhana]] that look at the most newsworthy events during the past year.<br/>"April 3307 saw the creation of the [[Federation]]'s [[Proactive Detection Bureau]] in reaction to the [[Nine Martyrs]] bombings. This organisation monitored all public and private communications for evidence of terrorists, to prevent similar attacks in future. But its highly controversial nature would soon present the Federation with new challenges. [[Affiliated Counter-Terrorism unit|ACT's]] investigation led them to the Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid, which had helped deliver the caustic enzyme bombs to their nine targets. The faction's defeat was an early victory against the [[Neo-Marlinist Liberation Army|NMLA]], but much of the organisation remained a mystery. When the 'ghost ship' [[Adamastor]] began receiving an encoded signal, this began an entire saga of mysteries. Its long-lost sister ship, the [[Hesperus]], was soon located by pilots who had been recruited by an anonymous figure named [[Salvation]]. His interest in Azimuth Biochemicals, the 200 year old corporation that owned both vessels, would bring a strange twist to the ongoing [[Second Thargoid War|Thargoid conflict]]. In May, [[Hadrian Augustus Duval|Hadrian Duval]] was targeted by Federal forces after accusations that he was the mastermind behind the NMLA. The spectre of [[Empire]]-Federation war rose once again as [[Nova Paresa|Nova Imperium]] successfully defended itself, but ACT concluded that evidence had been falsified to implicate Hadrian and his new wife [[Astrid Minerva-Duval|Lady Astrid]]. [[Aegis]] came under intense scrutiny when the megaship [[Alexandria]], laden with newly collected Guardian artefacts, began attracting Thargoids in every system it jumped to. The Alexandria later vanished completely in [[hyperspace]], and to this day remains missing presumed destroyed. The [[Alliance]] election finally took place at the end of May, having been delayed by three months due to the [[Galactic Summit]]. [[Councillor]] [[Nakato Kaine]] fought a spirited campaign, but [[Edmund Mahon]] was re-elected to serve a second term as [[Alliance Prime Minister|prime minister]]. Supporters of Neo-Marlinism gained a voice in June, when Minister [[Aaron Whyte]] offered a peace deal with the Empire to prevent further terrorism. The idea of a political wing of the NMLA gained support from those fearing further bombings, but opened major rifts within the [[Marlinist Colonies]]. Salvation once again contacted pilots to track down survivors from the Hesperus. This led to the discovery of an ancient [[Guardian-Thargoid War|Guardian-Thargoid battleground]], where Azimuth scientists had built a research base around their vessel [[Proteus]]. All were killed by unusual experiments into weaponising [[Guardian]] crystals. The Proactive Detection Bureau had been generally accepted by Federal citizens, but many claimed it was a violation of civil liberties. Halfway through the year, the Azaladshu Free faction took the bold step of seceding from the Federation, thus triggering the possibility of [[Federal Rebellion of 3307|mass rebellion]]."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/61bc621a105bfb228026979e GalNet: A Retrospective of 3307 (Part Two)]</ref>
22 SEP 3307
*The anonymous 'man of science' [[Salvation]] has claimed responsibility for the [[Thargoid]]s' unexplained departure from the Cornsar system. Salvation had predicted their attack, but his claim was discounted by [[Aegis]] and [[Noah Sharrow|other authorities]]. After a few days the Thargoid vessels fled abruptly, leaving behind [[Crashed Thargoid Ship|wreckages]] across the system. The following message was transmitted on public channels: "This is Salvation. The Thargoid invasion of Cornsar has now been repulsed, thanks to [[Anti-xeno superweapon|prototype anti-xeno weaponry]] that I have been developing for some time. I have achieved what Aegis could not – an effective deterrent against the alien threat. Refinement of this weapon is at a critical stage, so I cannot reveal any details. I only regret that my warning was not heeded in time to save everyone on the two [[starport]]s. This triumph was only possible thanks to those loyal pilots who answered my call. Rewards will shortly be available from the [[Bright Sentinel]] [[megaship]] in the [[Mbooni]] system." Salvation's identity and capabilities remain unknown, but he has established a reputation as a rival to Aegis. He is also knowledgeable about Azimuth Biochemicals, a research company connected to the earliest recorded encounters with [[Guardian]] and Thargoid artefacts.<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/614b1b42ee27c94b1b195046 GalNet: Salvation Takes Credit for Repelling Thargoids]</ref>

*<nowiki>*</nowiki>Pilots Federation ALERT*<br/>The [[dredger]] belonging to the [[The Scriveners Clan Dredger|Scriveners Clan]] has left the Perseus Dark Region KC-V c2-2 system, where the [[Hesperus]] [[megaship]] is located. The 200-year-old 'ghost ship', once owned by Azimuth Biochemicals, was discovered in April when the nomadic clan began salvaging it for materials and data. [[Erik Gunnarson]] of the [[Wallglass Investigations Agency]] speculated: "When the Scriveners laid claim to the Hesperus, I expected only a cloud of fragments would remain. But their salvage operation has been prematurely abandoned, after stripping the megaship's innards and leaving behind a mostly intact hull. Why have they done this? Perhaps because this particular [[Dredger Clans|dredger clan]] avoids outsiders. Public interest in the Hesperus inspired thousands of curious travellers to see it for themselves, potentially drawing more scrutiny than the secretive tribe could bear. Alternatively, the Scriveners detected richer pickings elsewhere – either fresh resources for the dredger to consume or new information for their 'Knowledge Core'. In theory they could still be tracked down as their vessel's [[hyperdrive]] has a similar range to modern-day [[Drake-Class Carrier|fleet carriers]]. We know very little about the Scriveners, and even less about other clans. However, with the recent appearance of the [[Blue Viper Club Clan Dredger|Blue Viper Club dredger]] at Kumo City, I'm hopeful more may be revealed about these roaming societies."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/60e857529a9f437bd96dff0f GalNet: Scriveners Clan Abandons the Hesperus]</ref>
18 JUN 3307
*<nowiki>*</nowiki>Pilots Federation ALERT*<br/>An [[Anaconda]] from the [[Hesperus]] [[megaship]] has been found at a historical battlefield on the moon Trapezium Sector YU-X c1-2 1a. The discovery was made by pilots who tracked down a series of [[Listening post|signal beacons]], following instructions provided by the anonymous '[[Salvation]]'. The beacons were deployed by the Hesperus during its voyage nearly 200 years ago. The Anaconda, named [[Proteus]], was one of the megaship's secondary vessels and had been outfitted for long-range exploration. It was used by an Azimuth Biochemicals science team to flee the Hesperus after the megaship was overtaken by saboteurs from rival company [[Pharmasapien]]. Upon landing, the Proteus was converted into a research facility to study the ancient structures and wreckage on the moon. The proximity of both [[Guardian]] and [[Thargoid]] technology suggests this was the site of a battle fought by the two civilisations over a million years ago, although in 3113 neither species had yet been identified. Professor [[Alba Tesreau]] of [[Aegis|Aegis Research]] gave this statement: "This is a significant xenoarchaeological find – physical evidence of [[Guardian-Thargoid War|the war between the Guardians and the Thargoids]]. Our advance teams are conducting preliminary surveys, and a megaship is being prepared. Following the [[Alexandria]]'s tragic disappearance, we hope this may serve as a fresh source of Guardian artefacts for our anti-xeno research programme."<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/60cc9d2606236c5ec30eb969 GalNet: Guardian-Thargoid Battlefield Discovered]</ref>
11 JUN 3307
*<nowiki>*</nowiki>Pilots Federation ALERT*<br/>[[Commander]]s in the Chukchan and Perseus Dark Region KC-V c2-2 systems have reported being contacted by '[[Salvation]]'. The anonymous individual is known to have an interest in the [[Adamastor]] and the [[Hesperus]], the 'ghost ships' within those systems. Both of the derelict [[megaship]]s were operated 200 years ago by Azimuth Biochemicals. Commander Tyler Thorsen told [[Vox Galactica]]: "I was taking some sightseers on a trip round the Hesperus, and getting as close as I dared to [[The Scriveners Clan Dredger|the Scriveners Clan dredger]]. I scanned the [[Tourist Beacon|tourist beacon]] for them, and suddenly received a direct message from this 'Salvation' guy. He asked me to track down some old signal beacons, which are [[listening post]]s configured to retransmit long-range comms. Apparently these could help locate the survivors from the megaship. But the Hesperus is ancient history. Surely there can't be anything or anyone left to find?" In April, 'Salvation' unofficially recruited independent pilots to locate the Hesperus, and to deliver its surviving logs to [[Taurus Mining Ventures]]. The [[Pilots Federation]] is running an inquiry into 'Salvation' and his associates. Commanders are being cautioned against undertaking tasks for what may be an illegal enterprise.<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/60c34f846cee523238177a32 GalNet: The Legacy of the Hesperus]</ref>
27 APR 3307
*[[Francesca Wolfe]] of the [[Wallglass Investigations Agency]] examines the [[Hesperus]] [[megaship]] and the [[Dredger Clans|Dredger Clan]] that caused its recent discovery. "When the [[Adamastor]] derelict received a strange signal, smart money was on it originating from its sister ship, the Hesperus. Both were owned by Azimuth Biochemicals and had vanished 200 years ago. After a united effort to decode and trace the signal, independent pilots located the Hesperus in an asteroid belt around the second star of the Perseus Dark Region KC-V C2-2 system. Like the Adamastor, it was devoid of life – but not alone. Alongside it was a [[dredger]], whose proximity had triggered the Hesperus's mayday. This was a rare sighting of a Dredger Clan, one of the nomadic tribes that [[Erik Gunnarson|Gunnarson]] recently discussed. [[The Scriveners Clan Dredger|The Scriveners Clan]] was originally a fleet of research vessels for a long-forgotten academic consortium. Over centuries they became a self-sufficient society, constantly acquiring materials and information. They're not aggressive, but shun outsiders and jealously guard their 'Knowledge Core'. I'm fascinated by mentions of research-sergeants and lector-generals, suggesting their culture is a merger of scholastic and military. With the Hesperus claimed as salvage by the Scriveners and its drives stripped, all chance of learning more was lost. Luckily, four encoded data files had resisted upload, and a gap in the dredger's antiquated firewalls allowed pilots to hack them. The decrypted logs have now been preserved for posterity in a nearby [[Tourist Beacon|tourist beacon]]. They tell a disturbing story of corporate rivalry, murder and revenge, but also leave many unanswered questions... We know that survivors abandoned ship to continue searching for 'alien artefacts'. Did they all die in space or did they find something? What did Azimuth's probes detect back in 3113? And who the hell is '[[Salvation]]', the shadowy figure who contacted pilots to find the Hesperus?"<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/6087fb6ea940e70cd925f8c2 GalNet: Galactic Mysteries: The Hesperus]</ref>
08 APR 3307
*<nowiki>*</nowiki>Pilots Federation ALERT*<br/>The [[Adamastor]], a 200 year old 'ghost ship' in orbit around Chukchan 5 b, has received a mysterious encrypted signal. The derelict vessel has been undergoing investigation by [[Alliance Salvage Guild]] teams since its discovery last October. They released this report: "Months ago, we cut open one of the Adamastor's damaged cargo holds to find an undeployed communications beacon. We managed to power it up, but it contained no data and had never been used. This beacon has now automatically activated, and is receiving and rebroadcasting a long-range signal. The transmission's source cannot be identified, but is definitely of interstellar origin. Its encoded content has yet to be deciphered." The Adamastor vanished in 3111 after an incident that may have involved the first historical encounter with the [[Thargoid]]s. It reappeared in 3306 when it entered the Chukchan system at sublight speeds on autopilot, with no sign of its crew. It was recently learned that in 3113 the Adamastor's sister ship, the [[Hesperus]], also disappeared. Both were owned by a corporation called Azimuth Biochemicals, which was absorbed by a rival named [[Pharmasapien]]. Little is known about either company, but it is believed they were competitors in the field of xenological research.<ref>[https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/606eeff88e6ba571393b9fc5 GalNet: The Awakening of the Adamastor]</ref>
10 MAR 3307
*[[Erik Gunnarson]] and [[Francesca Wolfe]], two detectives from the [[Wallglass Investigations Agency]], examine the background of the [[Adamastor]] [[megaship]].<br/>Gunnarson: "When Wolfe and I started this project, we knew this case would come first. We're both protégés of [[Benjamin Chester]], creator of the Wallglass Archive. He retired years ago, but that old spark kicked in when a 'ghost ship' turned up on his doorstep! The Adamastor is a 200 year old derelict that drifted into the Chukchan system on autopilot. It's still there, with the [[Alliance Salvage Guild]] poking through its guts. Chester investigated its owners, a super-secretive company called Azimuth Biochemicals. We don't know what they were searching for, but what they found was possibly the first recorded [[Thargoid]] encounter. I've since tracked down evidence that the Adamastor had a sister ship – the [[Hesperus]] – which in 3113 was sent to… somewhere! Neither ship returned, but we only know what happened on the Adamastor mission. Of course, Wolfe had to go see that with her own eyes."<br/>Wolfe: "Musca Dark Region PJ-P b6-1 is a busy system nowadays, but was unexplored when [[Penelope Carver|Professor Carver's]] survey team were there. Listening to their logs from two centuries ago while examining the [[Geological Survey 23B|research base]] was chilling… ghost voices from a ghost ship. There was evidence of blast scars, but I've seen enough battlefields to know what exchanged gunfire looks like. Azimuth's mercenaries weren't just firing at Thargoids, but at someone who shot back with laser rifles. Gunnarson tells me Azimuth was swallowed up by a rival called [[Pharmasapien]]. Did they infiltrate the Adamastor and try to take over? Or did the thing that Carver captured drive everyone insane? This is a seriously cold case, even for us. But maybe one day, more tantalising clues will emerge. And that’s what we live for."<ref name="GMTA" />
29 OCT 3306
*A private investigator has uncovered some background to the derelict megaship that recently arrived in this system. Little is known about the [[Adamastor]], which returned on autopilot after two hundred years with no sign of its crew. But an experienced detective has come out of retirement to tackle this mystery. Local resident [[Benjamin Chester]], who was a founding member of the renowned [[Wallglass Investigations Agency]], told [[Journalism|journalists]]: "I convinced the [[Alliance Salvage Guild]] to pass on some serial numbers that they discovered inside the Adamastor. Then I started scouring databases, interviewing sources and, well, doing my old job. The megaship was owned by a corporation called Azimuth Biochemicals. This was taken over by a similar company called [[Pharmasapien]], but both were liquidated long ago. No mission records exist, but service crew reports mention that the Adamastor's passengers included scientists, engineers and some kind of military. Eventually I unearthed a flight plan, logged in October 3111. It plotted a course toward [[Barnard's Loop]] with fuel for approximately 370 light years, and was scheduled to pass by the HIP 39748 and HIP 33386 systems. I'm way too old to head out there myself, but l hope someone can use this info, and help satisfy my curiosity about what happened all those years ago."<ref>[https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/jkeowd/secrets_of_the_adamastor_chukchan_local_news/ r/EliteDangerous: Secrets of the Adamastor (Chukchan local news article)]</ref>
