The Cutter features 4 medium [[hardpoint]]s: 2 on the nacelles and 2 on the belly; 2 large hardpoints on top of the ship and 1 huge hardpoint on the chin. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed.

[[Frontier Developments]] also confirmed it will have bad manoeuvrability and a high top speed. It is the largest player piloted ship as of 1.5 Beta 3.

With its 792T cargo capacity it has the largest cargo bay a playable ship can have, topping the Type-9 with 260T more cargo space, over 48% more space, while having significantly better shields and speed than the Type-9. This will make it the most logical choice for traders.

Unlike the Type-9, it is extremely well-shielded, very fast (though not maneuverable) for its size, and reasonably well-armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing some limited use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of class 2 weapon mounts, the Cutter is unquestionably the best mining ship yet.

Despite being exceptionally powerful and potentially useful in a variety of roles, the Python does suffer from exceptionally high operating costs, making it a potentially cost-prohibitive option for many pilots.

It is considered by some to be the most effective balance between firepower, maneuverability, and protection currently available. In addition to being capable of holding its own against the larger [[Anaconda]] in a toe-to-toe frontal battle through its substantial protection and firepower, the {{PAGENAME}}''' '''is generally agile enough to comfortably deal with smaller fighter classes without having to rely on turret mounts.

The {{PAGENAME}} can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a class 3 [[shield]] module fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted, both of which is more cargo than the [[Type-7 Transporter]] can carry without shields fitted. Additionally, besides being able to carry more cargo while retaining shields, the {{PAGENAME}} can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium sized landing pads. However, the downside to trading with a {{PAGENAME}} is its higher repair/maintenance costs and its shorter jump range when fully loaded.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose mounted hardpoint has good vertical field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimbaled or turreted).

The '''{{PAGENAME}}''' is a heavy freighter and is one of three freighters manufactured by [[Lakon Spaceways]]. Currently it has the largest cargo capacity of any ship available making it the ideal trading and hauling vessel. As a result of this it suffers from poor manoeuvrability and can have difficulty in shaking smaller [[ships]] from its blind spot. Although with five weapon [[Hardpoint|hardpoints]] the {{PAGENAME}} is not without defences and can equip medium armaments.

It first appeared in the development diary videos and in some of the live streams done by [[Frontier Developments|Frontier]]. Later it appeared in the early Alpha stages and is one of the four ships that was in the first release of the Premium Beta.

The ship itself is often seen as a freighter, although it can be a potent threat if equipped with the right weapons. It can, with good aim and piloting take down a Sidewinder in one pass. Yet, the primary role of this ship is to be a [[trader]] as it is incredibly slow and lumbering. Also note that pilots have problems fitting through the entrance of [[Station|Stations]] and can therefore be very expensive to fly (due to crashes) if the pilot is not sufficiently skilled. A [[Standard Docking Computer]] can be useful for players who have trouble docking this ship.

Type-9 is the only ship in the game capable of mounting Class 8 equipment, although it makes little sense to fill that slot with anything but the largest [[Cargo Rack]] [x256].
