Yeah but 800 degrees Fahrenheit shouldn't be able burn anything up from a few light seconds away. 800 degrees is like right when metal starts turning dim red.

That's like, turing on a stove and then burning a hot dog from the other side of your house. It doesn't/shouldn't reach that far, right?

The other day I was in my Type 7. I came across one of those Class Y stars which are supposedly just "very large gas giant planets". It just looked like a glowing gas giant. I read the description in the system map. It said something about how its surface temperature is "only 700K". I thought damn, only 700 degrees Kelvin? That's like, roughly 500 degrees F, give or take a few hundred degrees.

So I went in to take a closer look at what I had discovered. Before I could get really close, it dropped me out of supercruise. Keep in mind that I was still a good distance away from this thing. My ship started heating up. Now the Type 7 isn't exactly known for being resilient to overheating, but this is a 700K celestial body from SEVERAL LIGHT SECONDS away. I thought "ONLY 700 DEGREES KELVIN MY ASS!!".

So I disabled my guns, fuel scoop and all the other stuff I wasn't using, This didn't help my overheating much. I then disabled everything except life support, thrusters and FSD. This helped a little bit but I was still burning up to my death. As a last resort, I disabled life support as I was attempting to jump away.

I escaped with like 240% overheating.

IRL Venus is hotter than that star (if you can even call it that) and it doesn't burn stuff up until you land on it. So I think that that's 700K Kelvin. Not 700K which looks like "700 degrees Kelvin".

tl;dr: I got too close to a class Y star and almost died and it's probably hotter than 700 degrees Kelvin.
