At a base cost of almost 147 million credits, the '''Anaconda''' used to be the most expensive ship in [[Elite Dangerous]], until the [[Federal Corvette]] and the [[Imperial Cutter]] took that title when they were added. It is a slow but enormous vessel that excels in all roles: combat, exploration and trading, and was the pinnacle of a late game ship. As it stands the Anaconda is now the third most expensive ship, but it doesn't have any rank requirements with the [[Federation]] or the [[Empire]] associated with it and is therefore easier to acquire than the [[Federal Corvette]] or the [[Imperial Cutter]]. Of the ships able to be piloted by a player in the game, the Anaconda is currently the fifth largest in volume and the fourth longest, being surpassed in length and volume by the [[Beluga Liner]], [[Imperial Cutter]] and [[Federal Corvette]] (in that order), and in volume by the [[Type-9 Heavy]].

The ship's bridge is located on the top of the ship roughly at its midpoint. The pilot's station is positioned at the center of the bridge, with 2 copilot seats on either side (currently they are for cosmetic only). The bridge features an open design, providing great viewing angles both up and to the sides from the horizontal position from the pilot's point of view. However the ship's nose obstructs view underneath the ship, which makes docking somewhat difficult. In a combat scenario 2 large hardpoints and 2 utility mounts are deployed directly in front of the bridge, which can obstruct the pilot's view when they fire.

Boasting an array of weapon [[hardpoint]]s, this ship is a formidable [[combat]] ship capable of holding its own against multiple opponents. It, the [[Fer-de-Lance]], the Federal Corvette, and the Imperial Cutter are the only [[ships]] capable of equipping the powerful Class 4 weaponry. The weapon hardpoint locations are as follows: Two Class 3 Large hardpoints top mounted side-by-side to each other in front of the cockpit and about 1/3 the ship length back from the front tip with slightly blocked aft line of sight. One Class 2 Medium hardpoint side mounted on each side near the front tip of the ship (2x Class 2 medium hardpoints total) with decent lines of sight. One Class 3 Large hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship, near the tip of the ship, with somewhat blocked aft line of sight. One Class 4 Huge hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship at about 1/3 of the ship length back from the front tip, mounted slightly lower than the underside class 3 hardpoint, with nearly uninterrupted forward and below lines of sight and somewhat blocked aft lines of sight. Two Class 1 Small hardpoints mounted on the underside of the ship, side-by-side to each other, at the very back of the large rectangular Cargo bay shaped area, with nearly uninterrupted lines of sight in all underside directions but have limited firing arc convergence with the top mounted class 3 large hardpoints, namely in front of the ship. Overall the Anaconda is one of the most heavily armed ships in Elite Dangerous, however players may struggle to utilize this effectively because of its lack of maneuverability and power control problems when high level modules are installed. Also of note is that the Anaconda is currently one of the three ships with 8 Utility Hardpoints. As of the release of [[Elite Dangerous: Horizons|Horizons]]: Guardians it became one of the 7 ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] module for docking [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]].

The Anaconda has a class 6 internal module slot for the [[Frame Shift Drive|frame shift drive]], which allows it to achieve high jump range albeit at the cost of high fuel consumption due to its high mass. It has a large number of internal compartments to accommodate the various modules needed for exploration such as [[Advanced Discovery Scanner|scanners]] and [[Fuel Scoop|fuel scoop]]. As such it is a popular choice for explorers, provided they can afford the hefty cost.

Some wealthy [[trader]]s also make use of this ship due to its high jump range, enormous cargo capacity (up to 468T of cargo, a figure surpassed only by the [[Lakon Type-9 Heavy]], the [[Federal Corvette]], and the [[Imperial Cutter]]), and superb defensive capabilities.

Overall the Anaconda is ideal for veteran pilots of all trades who have a large sum of credits at their disposal but don't have high rankings with either of the superpowers. The only downsides of the ship are its sub par speed and maneuverability due to its size, as well as the cost to upgrade and maintain the ship: prices for less essential modules will easily exceed 1 million credits, whereas more important modules are priced in the tens of millions of credits each. The repair fees for the Anaconda are also relatively high, since repair costs are calculated the same way as for all ships, meaning they are based on the purchase price of the ship and its modules. It is usually cheaper to repair an Anaconda's modules using an [[Auto Field-Maintenance Unit]].

As with all other ships the Anaconda gets a 15% discount in price in systems controlled by [[Li Yong-Rui]].

Due to the location of the Cargo Hatch on the Anaconda, deploying an SRV from Horizons will cause the SRV to fall the distance to the ground, or in the case of boarding it will cause the SRV to float upwards. Due to the Hatch location it can also be difficult to get the SRV in the correct position to board, transfer cargo, etc.

The '''Imperial Clipper''', built by [[Gutamaya]], is one of the [[Empire]]'s [[ships]] and thus are generally sold at [[Station]]s that are aligned with the Empire. This ship is quite popular with [[pirate]]s, [[trader]]s, and some combat pilots. It is a reasonable pirate ship due to the large cargo capacity and heavy armament. Traders may find this ship appealing due to its superb cargo capacity and defensive capability; while it is more expensive than the [[Lakon Type-7]] it can easily defend itself against a pirate.

Pilots of any [[profession]] may appreciate its speed; with fully upgraded [[Thrusters]], it is comparable to that of smaller ships such as the [[Cobra MkIII]] and the [[Imperial Eagle]]. Additionally, its pitch rotation and yaw speed are higher than most ships, making it feel like a very hefty, weighted-down [[Eagle]] with a boost speed that is higher than that of the [[Viper MkIII|Viper]]. Its only manoeuvering drawback, and likely the reason for its low overall agility rating, is its poor lateral thruster capability; the vertical-lateral thrusters are very weak compared to those of other ships. This weakness, combined with very weak [[shield]]s for its size and wing-mounted [[hardpoint]]s ill-suited for fixed weapons, limits the Imperial Clipper's efficiency as a PvP [[combat]] ship even if the shields are upgraded to maximum. The Imperial Clipper is also currently the fourth widest ship controllable by players, which may pose a challenge with docking.

Speed and manoeuvrability fall off more heavily when heavily loaded than other ships, bringing it back into more normal speeds and turn rates when hauling cargo.

Both the ships interior and exterior are luxurious in design, the engines sport a radically different sound than other ships, and the large cockpit canopy features an unobstructed view of space.

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: One Class 3 large hardpoint on the top of each wingtip nacelle (total of two class 3 mounts), and One Class 2 medium hardpoint on the underside of each wing where the wing attaches to the main fuselage (total of two class 2 mounts). The wingtip mounts are very far from centerline and will have trouble converging their fields of fire unless used with gimbaled or turret mounted weapons. The underside mounts although closer together, also suffer the same field of fire convergence issues although to a lesser degree than the wingtip mounts.

The pilot's station is offset to the right of the centerline of the ship. The auxiliary station is even with the pilot's station and is offset to the left of the centerline of the ship.

The '''Engineers''' are known individuals that can modify your ship's [[weapons]] and [[modules]]. They reside in planetary bases and can only modify a specific set of weapons and modules depending upon their lore and preference. Some engineers are suited more for [[Explorer|explorers]] whilst others for [[Bounty Hunter|bounty hunters]].

In total there are 30 engineers with only 5 immediately known. Before you can get an invite to an Engineer's base you must learn about them first, either through common knowledge or from hearing about them through other Engineers.

To be able to get an invite to an Engineer's base, you first have to meet their invite requirements (listed as How to Get Invite in table below). These requirements vary and some engineers are easier to obtain an invite than others. Once invited and having traveled to their base, you can unlock their services by doing a task that they ask you to do, such as providing a [[commodity]] they require. Upon unlocking their services you are given a reputation rank to the engineer, going from 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest reputation achievable. These reputation ranks determine what level of modification you can do, with every modification crafted your progress to the next reputation level increases. As you increase your reputation with the Engineer you will be able to craft higher level modifications which provide increased effects. It should be noted that Engineers may not be able to craft all 5 modification levels for a module type.

== How crafting with an engineer works ==

[[Materials]] and commodities are required by the engineers to upgrade modules on the player ship. Each blueprint specifies which materials and commodities are needed, and how to get them (either from destroying ships, completing missions, and visiting signal sources, or from a planetary surface ). Different engineers require different materials, meaning not all materials gathered can be used by the same engineer.

Before you upgrade a module, you will see an information screen that lists the materials needed for the modification, the possible range for applied effects (with each effect having a minimum and maximum change value), and the percentage chance to receive a [[Engineer's weapon special effects|special effect]] (which mostly applies to weapons). You will only see the exact outcome of the upgrade after you have committed to spending the materials. It is also possible to choose to decrease the level progressing with an engineer for a guaranteed [[Engineer's weapon special effects|special effect]] on the module after reaching at least reputation level 2. After spending the resources to craft the upgrade, you may either choose to accept the changes, discard them or retry the modification. If you choose to discard the changes, any previous engineer upgrade on that module will remain and the materials used in the making are used up. With either choice your engineer level will increase.

Please note that you can only have one upgrade modification installed per module. Installing a new modification will remove the old modification permanently. Thus it is not possible to have a module with multiple modifications. This limitation should not be confused with the number of stat changes and effects a modification has, as these are determined by the particular modification and can be numerous.
