The Taipan is a Ship-Launched Fighter manufactured by Faulcon DeLacy and included in the Elite Dangerous: Horizons 2.2 update. It can only be deployed from a Fighter Hangar equipped on a larger ship.

Overview
Of the three fighters, the Taipan is not as fast as the F63 Condor nor as maneuverable as the Imperial Fighter, but it does have the most armour and shields.

The Taipan Fighter can be purchased in Alliance and Independent systems only, but can be restocked in any system.

The rear wings of the Taipan have their in-flight position (the non-docking configuration) animated based on the heat level of the fighter. As the ship's heat level increases, the rear wings will decrease the amount they are swept back in a V shape and will become closer to a straight wing shape.

Variants
The Taipan is available in 6 variants, which differ only in weapons and utility modules, and slightly in the top and boost speed. F-variants have fixed weapons and G-variants have gimballed weapons.
Trivia
*Concept art of the Taipan referred to it as the "Independent Fighter".
*The Taipan's design similarities to Lakon Spaceways ships caused many players to assume that it was a Lakon product, but descriptions in the game and on cosmetic items in the Frontier Store for the fighter confirm that it is from Faulcon DeLacy.

The Cobra Mk. III is a larger and more popular version of the cobra Mk. I. It was first seen in service in 3100 AD, originally manufactured by Cowell & McGrath Shipyard, Lave. Since Cowell & McGrath's acquisition by Faulcon de Lacey it is now branded as an FdL made ship.

It is equipped with several special features, including Zieman Energy Deflection Shields, mountings for four Ingram 'Pulse Lasers ', a Lance & Ferman Seek & Kill missile system, and Kruger "lightfast" motors from Irrikan ThruSpace.

With its good-sized cargo hold the Cobra is a logical step on a trader's route to riches. It also has much better combat potential than the Lakon series of large freighters, making It a favourite of lone-wolf traders. What's more, it is an Ideal craft for a pirate to plunder the space lanes because of Its ample capacity for loot. A low heat signature also helps pirates, smugglers and others seeking to avoid the attentions of the authorities.

The downside of this ship is the combat ability relative to cheaper ships such as the Eagle or the Viper so the Cobra is only advisable for bounty hunters if they plan on taking up piracy in the near future. It is also quite slow relative to cheaper ships, and can be outpaced by an upgraded Hauler, so it is advisable to select targets carefully if you plan on combat with specialist fighters, as you will probably be unable to escape if the battle does not go your way. In short: do not use the Cobra as a fighter for bounty hunting or military engagements.

While supercruising through a system various signal types can be seen overlaid on the view of space. These may be designated any of the following types:
* Low Intensity Conflict Zone
* High Intensity Conflict Zone
* Distress Signal
**These are signals from stricken vessels that, if you are a bounty hunter or pirate, present targets that will tend to be quite strong (no puny sidewinders in these areas!). There will often be factions in these areas and you must pick a side to avoid a bounty when firing. You will be given credits for each kill specific to each conflict zone as in any other conflict zone.
* Extraction Zone
** The rewards here are much higher but equally the NPC's are harder than the conflict zones. You DO NOT need to join a faction here. You simply target other ships, scan them and if one of them is wanted you take them out and, if they have cargo, steal their haul which you can sell on the black market. These areas, along with Nav Beacons, are full of pirates and bounty hunters. A Resource Extraction Site outside of a planetary ring is far less likely to contain NPCs.
* Unidentified Signal Source
** What is found in these locations varies. They may contain squadrons of pirates, large 'wanted' cargo vessels (which you can destroy and steal the cargo without becoming wanted yourself) and sometimes just empty space with low value cargo laying around. Typically these areas have more than one bad guy, so you can visit these locations without being attacked (as long as you don't have cargo) and have a look around, but bounty hunting or piracy at these sites may require a combat focused ship due to the random nature of the encounter (there may be Anacondas!).

**Assassination missions require you to visit these sites in order to locate the target. Usually you will find a damaged trade convoy that will tell you the last known location of the target, but are usually no more specific than a system.
