... and no, fuel limpets are a retarded idea to bring up here. Not only does that mean being forced to give up a module slot for the limpet controller, cutting into your ships ability to perform it's task (i), now you also have to let room for those pesky limpets which, for some moronic reason, cannot be stored in the limpet controller themselves (at least for a basic amount to get you started; 4 would seem like a good number for that)

I swear, whenever FDev looked at a game concept thinking, what would make the most sense in terms of balance and rewarding game design, they always said "nay! - we are doing it the opposite way", to make their game into even more of a sore... it's either that, or they are really THAT inept.

i) the limitations are already severely restrictive as is. Cargo space overall should be re-balanced, imo; and geared towards "volume" rather than their stupid "every thing is equally heavy" item-system (which, yet again, lets the word "retarded" come to mind...).
-> You want to haul a whole lot of gold? - well, it fits in well in large quantities relative to volume, but knocks down your jump range like nothing else, thanks to the increased weight/volume; in turn your sales-profit/volume would be off the charts. Or go with grain instead, have less problems with pirates (I am still not sure, if the code is sensitive in that matter at all... after all, retardation (coupled with lazyness) seems to be FDevs main design principle here...), for a mundane, save income and stable business. Right now, many goods, including the most important ones (people still need food, no??), are largely unprofitable, because of the limiting cargo space. And yes, that includes the big ships also (which, paradoxically, have a much lower cargo hold per ship size than smaller ones...).

You mean like the code that gets both the Canterbury ("Remember the Cant!") and the Nostromo in trouble? :D

and yes, there definitely should be a code like that; to follow distress calls you pick up, esp. when noone is around.

BUT (and this is a big "but"): there have to be other changes to come with this, accomodating it. Like the ability to transfer [inefficiently] fuel through a standard fuel hatch/hose of sorts, comparable to the mundane cargo hatch, to help "stranded" ships in need.

Think about it: if you are not equipped to deal with a variety of distress calls, it's usually pointless to drop in (making such "code" nothing but a nuisance. We might as well just erase it from the database then, pretend it never happened... like the Cant should have done), which is, yet again, a wasted/botched game feature. FDev are really good with those... and I consider this lapse as one that is actually immersion breaking, at least for me. Space is a hostile place. The fact, that it's pointless and thus avoided to ever drop in on a distress call seems very alien to me in a space-fareing society like that.

such a stupid feature.

reminds me of the cliche in sci-fy movies/series, like Alien [1] or Expanse, where following the distress call get's you killed; all because it was some sort of interstellar law to answer them...

But really: am I supposed to always have -not one, but two- of my module slots reserved to be able to answer these distress calls, and give them full, thereby severely limiting my ability to haul goods, or max out my fighting potential?.... Like always, FDEV have no effing clue of how to build proper game mechanics.

There needs to be an emergency way, be that a cumbersome one for that, to help randoms in that situation, that all ships can perform. There is a way to pick up goods and materials w/o collector limpets, same should be true for transferring basic amounts of fuel. Not having that is one of the many, MANY things that break immersion in this game, at least for me. Space is a hostile place, and ships gotta be able to perform many tasks, w/o giving up half of their desired potential to fulfill their specific primary task. We have a cargo-hatch... we should have a fuel-hatch with a tiny hose of sorts, just as well... no?!? O/C, goddamnit!

can we even, at the very least, report their whereabouts to the nearest station or platform, so they can send help? - no?.... fuck, that's stupid...

besides. Those cockpits are always a bit immersion breaking. In the wast emptyness of space, a place as hostile as it can be, having huge cockpits is a non starter from a security standpoint. Not just the canopies: the volume itself is problematic, as it makes a save retreat, when broken, impossible.

A real spaceship would have a backup plan for that, where you can give up one room and captain your ship from another, hence making each rather small, to never lose too much of your ship at once, would be key. How does the volume of air in the cockpit/ship come into consideration, when your canopy is broken? At that point, you only have your suit and a possible connection of that to the ships module and it's reserves, which would mean, that you'd have a one-size-fits-all system, where the emergency reserve only depends on the grade, not the class.

I think ammunition like that should be replenishable, BUT it should come at a cost of more than resources.

Ideally, there would be an additional module needed for synthesizing anything in your ship; but there are many "missing modules" like that, and the number of slots is allready very slim on most ships.

But it should definitely come at a cost of power draw, significantly enough, that other sacrifices may be necessary.
