With a base cost of almost 209 million credits, it is the most expensive ship in [[Elite Dangerous]], followed by the Federal Corvette and the [[Anaconda]]. Comparing the Imperial Cutter with those two ships (sometimes collectively referred to as the "big three" by the community), the Imperial Cutter is a multipurpose-specialized ship, much like the Anaconda, while the Federal Corvette is geared more toward the combat role. As it is a multipurpose ship, the Cutter excels in multiple roles. The Imperial Cutter is currently the second largest playable ship, behind only the [[Beluga Liner]]. The Cutter is a heavily armed ship, featuring four medium [[hardpoint]]s: two on the nacelles and two on the chin; two large hardpoints on top of the ship and a single huge hardpoint on the chin. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed. It has 8 utility mounts and is one of the eight ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] for [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]] as of the release of [[Horizons]]: Guardians.

With a staggering 792 tons of max cargo capacity, the Imperial Cutter has the largest cargo bay of all playable ships in the game, an almost 50% increase in size from the [[Type-9 Heavy]], while having significantly better defensive and offensive capabilities and speed than the latter. This makes it an ideal ship for traders. However it is also the most expensive ship in the game at a cost almost three times higher than a Type-9, and requires very high rank with the Empire to purchase.

Unlike the Type-9, it is extremely well-shielded, very fast for its size, and heavily armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role, as well as being more than capable of rivaling a Corvette or Anaconda in combat. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of medium weapon mounts, the Cutter is an excellent choice for mining.

The pilot's station is offset to the right of the ship's centerline. Currently, the primary and secondary fire group HUD brackets are misaligned with their centerline being far above where the weapon reticles appear. This means that it is not possible to use the center of the side brackets to align the ship with a destination as doing so will cause the ship to fly under the target and not straight at the target. Instead, for alignment in supercruise, use the center space between the repeating series of bars that appear to indicate speed and movement as a general guide to line up the ship with distant destinations along with the nav compass.

The '''Type-9 Heavy''' is a heavy freighter and is the largest of the four freighters manufactured by [[Lakon Spaceways]]. It has a maximum cargo capacity of 532T, the third largest of any ship available, behind only the [[Imperial Cutter]] and the [[Federal Corvette]]. However, as these 2 ships are much harder to acquire due to costs as well as the superpower rankings associated with them, wealthy traders usually have to choose between the Type-9 or the [[Anaconda]]. On paper the Type-9 is better, costing more than 70 million credits less than the Anaconda while having a higher maximum cargo capacity. ==Overview==
It is not recommended to engage in combat with the Type-9. It exhibits worse maneuverability and lower speed than any other ship in the game; it has extreme difficulty in shaking smaller [[ships]] from its blind spot (using a [[Fighter Hangar]] could help mitigate this shortcoming). It has five weapon [[hardpoint]]s to defend itself. Equipped with turrets, they can force enemy ships to operate with caution and give the Type-9 a chance to escape.

Many pilots have problems fitting through the entrance of [[Station]]s while they're first getting used to the Type 9, and it can, therefore, be very expensive for a new pilot to get used to. A [[Standard Docking Computer]] can be useful for players who have trouble docking this ship. It should also be noted that the type-9 heavy has better maneuverability when stopped; even though it isn't very useful in combat, it's handy for docking.

The Type-9 first appeared in the development diary videos and in some of the live streams done by [[Frontier Developments|Frontier]]. Later it appeared in the early Alpha stages and is one of the four ships that was in the first release of the Premium Beta.

On December 20, 3303, Lakon Spaceways released a revised model of the Type-9 known as the [[Type-10 Defender]], which was commissioned by the [[Alliance]] to help counter the [[Thargoids|Thargoid]] threat. The Type-10 improves upon the Type-9's features by adding various combat-oriented improvements without sacrificing cargo capacity.

The '''Asp Explorer''' has a high jump range relative to other ships in the game and thus is very good for use as an exploration ship. It has six weapon [[hardpoint]]s and has a good turning radius for its size which makes the Asp good for more than just exploration. The Asp can act as a heavy-duty bounty hunting vessel due to its superb weapon capacity and good manoeuvrability for its size. [[Pirate]]s can also use the Asp to great effect because of the ample cargo capacity, heavy armament, long jump range and large mass (allowing it to charge its own [[Frame Shift Drive]] with minimal mass disruption while also mass disrupting the frame shift drive of most [[ships]]). The Asp Explorer also features a copilot seat located directly under the player's seat, visible while outfitting the ship.

The Asp Explorer can be purchased at a 20% discount at Irkutsk station in the Alliance capital system of [[Alioth]].<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=122593 Discounted purchase price forum article]</ref> It can also be purchased from some stations in [[Li Yong-Rui]] controlled systems at a 15% discount.

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: On each side of the cockpit, 1 medium hardpoint above the waterline and 1 small hardpoint below the waterline (total 2 medium, 2 small), and 2 small hardpoints located directly beneath the cockpit. Due to the shape of the ship and the hardpoint locations, the medium hardpoints and small hardpoints share a small field of fire (i.e mostly directly ahead). Pilots should be aware that Turrets in both Medium Hardpoints will have firing arcs above the cockpit where the pilot can generally see the target that the turrets are shooting at. However, turrets in all four Small Hardpoints will have firing arcs below the cockpit, where the target will tend to be obscured from the pilot's vision by the flight console and the floor.

The pilot's station is located along the centerline of the ship on the top flight deck. An Auxiliary station is located along the centerline of the ship on the bottom flight deck which is directly underneath the top flight deck.

The Asp Explorer has an available 12 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the [https://www.frontierstore.net/usd/game-extras/elite-dangerous-game-extras/asp-ship-kit-12-pieces.html Frontier store] which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.
