The Python is a ship manufactured by Faulcon DeLacy. An iconic model, the Python pioneered modular ship design and singlehandedly revolutionized space travel when it was introduced by Whatt and Pritney Ship Constructions in 2700, spurring the rise of the first independent pilots. The modern iteration of the Python continues to be a popular choice, effectively combining utility and durability into a single multipurpose craft that can easily take on a variety of roles.

Overview
The Python is considered by some to be the most effective balance between firepower, manoeuvrability, and protection currently available. In addition to being capable of holding its own against the larger Anaconda in a toe-to-toe frontal battle through its substantial protection and firepower, the Python is generally agile enough for its size to comfortably deal with smaller fighter classes without having to rely on turret mounts.

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a Class 3 Shield Generator fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted. Additionally, it is the largest cargo capacity of any ship that can dock at Outposts since it utilizes medium landing pads; because of this the Python is fantastic for Community Goals. Although the ship can achieve surprisingly high jump ranges with the proper modules and Engineering, additional mass from cargo can quickly drag this down and significantly lengthen the return leg of a trading loop.

In combat scenarios, the Python is more than capable of putting down most other ships. With 5 hardpoints and good placement even larger ships like Anacondas and Imperial Cutters must operate with caution in a fight against a Python. Furthermore, it has a staggering Mass Lock factor of 17; not only is this much higher than any other medium ship it can even mass lock large ships such as Orcas and Type-9s making the Python an excellent choice for Pirating and Bounty Hunting as it has more than enough firepower to cripple targets before they can flee. The ship has one fatal flaw, however; its manoeuvrability. It has less manoeuvrability than other medium ships such as a Fer-de-Lance or Alliance Chieftain meaning it will often lose in a 1V1 scenario with either ship as manoeuvrability is an important factor in smaller ship combat and it also struggles against the small Vulture; which can easily stay under the ship and avoid fire. Turret mounts on the nose and medium hardpoints can help if this becomes an issue. Power is also a problem as the Python will struggle to keep all 5 hardpoints as well as utility mounts and Shield Generator powered. Engineering the Python is highly recommended to avoid this issue.

The Python can also serve as a competent Explorer; whilst it can't quite match the Diamondback or Asp Explorers for jump range, it can come close with a Class 5 Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster (and still has a healthy jump range without one), and its well-balanced array of optional internal slots gives it plenty of room for exploration equipment without sacrificing protection. Finally, its hardpoints can be loaded with weapons to deter pirates, or left empty to save on weight.

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose-mounted hardpoint has a good 180° field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimballed or turreted).

The pilot's station is offset to the left of centerline and is parallel to the auxiliary/copilot's station which is offset to the right; this can be a little disorienting at first.

The Python has an available 16 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the Frontier store which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.

The Krait MkII is a ship manufactured by Faulcon DeLacy. The modern successor of the discontinued Krait MkI, the Krait MkII greatly expands upon the premise of the original, resulting in a larger, well-rounded ship intended to provide a more combat-focused alternative to Faulcon DeLacy's other mid-size multipurpose craft, the Python. Due to its inconspicuous design, the Krait MkII is also less likely to attract the attention of local authorities and has potential as a smuggling vessel.

Overview
The Krait MkII is a leaner, meaner alternative to the Python, featuring almost identical module and hardpoint specifications. The main differences are that the Krait is cheaper and has one less Class 6 internal compartment, lower armour, lower hull mass, three pilot seats for Multicrew instead of two, and the ability to carry a Class 5 or 6 Fighter Hangar for Ship-Launched Fighters. While the Python wins out in total cargo capacity and armour, the Krait's other characteristics make it a faster, more agile ship with a higher jump range potential and excellent combat utility for its price.

The Krait's three large hardpoints are mounted in a delta pattern on the vessel's dorsal surface, behind the cockpit. The two medium hardpoints are mounted on the underside of the front-most points of the hull, on either side of the cockpit and slightly forward.

The primary pilot's seat is located squarely along the centerline of the ship, but the cockpit itself extends from the hull and is slightly under-slung, affording a wide, unobstructed frontal view reminiscent of a Lakon Spaceways ship such as the Asp Explorer. The two secondary pilot seats flank the primary pilot seat to the left and right, and have separate canopies.
Notes
*The Krait MkII was released with the Chapter Two (3.1) update of Elite Dangerous: Beyond on June 28, 2018. Purchasing it requires owning Elite Dangerous: Horizons.
*Elite Dangerous narrative lead Ian Dingwall describes the ship: "You might think of the Krait Mk II as analogous to modern updates of the real-world Mini Cooper or Volkswagen Beetle... It's a reimagining of a classic that connects conceptually and aesthetically with the ship from 1984's Elite, while offering enough innovation and quality to compete with contemporary rivals in Elite Dangerous. While the Mk II embodies the essence of the original, it's very much its own ship."
*Senior designer Barry Clark said the Krait MkII "currently occupies a unique place among our ship roster and is very popular among players... The idea of a low-profile ship for Commanders flying dubious cargo was really cool to us, too. The Krait is a great all-round ship with a strong hull, powerful engines – which look super-cool – and a great load-out. It's also less 'conspicuous', meaning it's less likely to get scanned by the police compared to other ships of that size and class. It has significant straight line speed and power, as well as enough firepower to match the Python thanks to three large and two medium hardpoints. It has a really nice punch against a variety of ship types and sizes."

Trivia
* The Krait MKII was first teased in the first trailer for Beyond Chapter 2; only its engines were shown however and no other info was yet known.
** Bizarrely, the Krait MKII is structured upside-down, with the underside being sloped and detailed and the top being flat and mechanical; the opposite of a standard ship design. This design structure is also somewhat present on the Anaconda.

The Keelback is a freighter ship with enhanced combat capabilities based on a Type-6 Transporter chassis. It debuted in the 1.5 "Ships" update on December 2015. It was first mentioned in a list from the Answers from the Devs where it said it is an upcoming ship.

As this had never been heard of, people speculated that it was an alternative name to the Panther Clipper. However, on a stream David Braben revealed that it is a ship similar to the Lakon Type-6 Transporter, but with better weapon hardpoints. It also has a better power plant at the cost of fewer internal compartments.
Overview
The Keelback is advertised as a well-armed trader; being able to haul large cargos without the need of an escort, similar to the Type-9, and particularly similar to the Type-10.

Like the Type-10 the Keelback sacrifices cargo space to improve combat effectiveness; though not nearly to the same degree. In comparison to the Type-6, the Keelback has 16T less potential cargo space, a rather large amount in the early game. Combined with its higher cost, lower jump range, higher rebuy and generating tougher NPC pirates, the Keelback is not as good of a trader as the cheaper Type-6, but it is more than capable and is still the second best ship at the role in the price range and much cheaper than the Federal Dropship or Python as an armed medium trader.

In combat, the Keelback retains the 2 Hardpoints of its base model and now has two additional medium hardpoints as well. While this is a large improvement; the type-6 has the same damage output as a Sidewinder, so the comparison is rather irrelevant. Compared to ships of its price range, such as Vipers, Asp Scouts, and Diamondbacks the Keelback has the lowest damage output of the range. It can easily be out-damaged by most ships in its price tier and only has marginally better shielding and armour. However, the Keelback makes up for this with its ability to mount a Fighter Hanger. With combined firepower of itself and its fighter the Keelback can easily out-damage all ships in its price range, however, this does mean losing a huge amount of cargo space for both Hanger and Shield Generator. The rather poor maneuverability and speeds make the Keelback ineffective at Supercruise interdicting. All in all the Keelback can make for a good Pirate or Bounty Hunter for a commander looking to utilise fighters and has good cargo space for plundered loot.

As an explorer, the Keelback has less range than the T6, due to its higher weight. Combined with worse compartment space the Keelback is a slightly worse ship in the role than the T6.

The Keelback has one role it shines in; as a Miner. With its two medium hardpoints, large cargo space, fighter bay for protection and smaller size the Keelback is one of the best ships available for the job and is by far the cheapest ship that is extremely effective in the role. Due to its small size, many rich pilots can still make good use of the ship for its impressive mining potential. Because fighter hangers make for great protection for a miner, it may even be more appealing than ships such as the Asp Explorer or Federal Dropship.

Overall the Keelback is a multi-purpose ship, capable of exploration, combat and trading while excelling at mining. Compared to similar ships such as the Asp Scout the ship generally does a much better job but has a much lower jump range. The Keelback is a good option for its price range for a multi-purpose ship.

Two medium hardpoints are located on top of the ship, very close to the cockpit, and two small hardpoints are located on the bottom of the ship a bit further back than the medium hardpoints. One of three utility mounts is located on the nose of the ship directly above the frontal landing gear piece, and two more on top and at the back. The interior is identical to that of the Type-6, however, it has a second seat situated behind the pilot and is capable of Multicrew. The ship also has unique rotating engine pods on each side that fill in the black gaps that were present on the T6. These are purely cosmetic, however.

The Keelback has an available 12 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the Frontier store which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay. It's worth noting that the ship kit is identical to that of the Type-6 instead fitted to the body of the Keelback

Purchase Locations
It can usually be purchased at Large population (5m +) and greater systems.

The Type-6 Transporter, one of four freighters manufactured by Lakon Spaceways, is mainly used for trading and hauling commodities throughout the galaxy. This ship has a medium landing pad size and, unlike both of Lakon's larger trading vessels, may still dock at Outposts. Due to the poor armour and manoeuvrability it is not suited for combat and it is advisable that traders avoid entering any combat situation without an escort or upgrading shields / hull.

Overview
The T-6 is an amazing trader, and is considered the next step up from the multipurpose Cobra MkIII. When fitted for maximum cargo capacity, which can reach 112 tons, many traders find that the Type-6 Transporter becomes quite suited for trading standard commodities in bulk rather than hauling rare commodities long distances. After upgrading the Frame Shift Drive to increase its jump range, the Type-6 Transporter can be equally good at hauling commodities long distances.

The Type-6 Transporter has also found a niche as an exploration vessel; when stripped of all unnecessary weight and stocked with an upgraded frame shift drive, the Type-6 Transporter can reach jump ranges just short of the Asp Explorer at a much lower cost, though it is significantly less capable of defending itself should it encounter a hostile vessel, and is still almost three times more expensive than the Cobra MKIII, which can also be used for exploration. Because of its high Compartment count, it is capable of holding more fuel and a bigger fuel scoop, and is better at Passenger missions.

In combat, the T6 is second only to the Hauler as the worst ship in the role. It has the same hardpoints as the Sidewinder but much lower mobility and thus cannot evade fire or keep its fixed hardpoints on a target nearly as well, and it also attracts much more dangerous vessels than the Sidewinder would. Its low maneuverability also makes it more vulnerable to being Interdicted. Its advantage is it can be quite hardy; its shields and armour are rather good for its price so it can often take hits; though this requires lowering the cargo capacity. Keep in mind the T6 has a deceptively low Mass Lock factor of only 8 which means most ships can mass lock it. Hyperjumping to another system in combat is advised to avoid this. If one wishes to take down oncoming enemy pirates while still making profit from trade the Keelback is a much better option.

Prior to v1.2, the Type-6 had a tendency to run hot - to 100% or greater - making fuel scooping and consecutive hyperspace jumps more risky unless an A-rated power plant was also used (reducing the average maximum heat to 95%). This was especially dangerous because the cargo hatch module tends to take a lot of heat damage which can lead to a malfunction causing cargoes to jettison. As of v1.2, this tendency has been corrected and the ship now runs much cooler, making it less likely to suffer heat damage.

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: Two bottom mounted Class 1 small hardpoints mounted one on each side of the ship, separated by a central ridge.

The Type-6 Transporter has an available 12 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the Frontier store which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.
Notes
* The Class 3 Shield Generator that comes equipped by default is suboptimal for the ship's weight and thus, while it will save on repair costs when bumping into objects, it will not hold up very well against an attack. It is recommended to replace the default Class 3 Shield Generator with a Class 4 as doing so will greatly increase the shield's strength and will only reduce cargo capacity by 8 Tons.
