With a base cost of almost 209 million credits, it is the most expensive ship in ''[[Elite Dangerous]]'', exceeding the combat-specialized Federal Corvette and the multipurpose [[Anaconda]]. The Imperial Cutter is also currently the second largest playable ship, behind only the [[Beluga Liner]].

==Overview==
The Cutter is a heavily armed ship, featuring four medium [[hardpoint]]s: two on the nacelles and two on the chin; two large hardpoints on top of the ship and a single huge hardpoint on the chin. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed. It has 8 utility mounts and is one of the eight ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] for [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]] as of the release of [[Horizons]]: Guardians.

With a staggering 792 tons of max cargo capacity, the Imperial Cutter has the largest cargo bay of all playable ships in the game, making it an ideal ship for traders. However, it is also the most expensive ship in the game at a cost almost three times higher than a [[Type-9 Heavy]], which has a max cargo capacity of 788 tons.

Unlike the [[Type-9]], it is extremely well-shielded, very fast for its size, and heavily armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role, as well as being more than capable of rivaling a Corvette or Anaconda in combat. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of medium weapon mounts, the Cutter is an excellent choice for mining.

The pilot's station is offset to the right of the ship's centerline. Currently, the primary and secondary fire group [[HUD]] brackets are misaligned with their centerline being far above where the weapon reticles appear. This means that it is not possible to use the center of the side brackets to align the ship with a destination as doing so will cause the ship to fly under the target and not straight at the target. Instead, for alignment in supercruise, use the center space between the repeating series of bars that appear to indicate speed and movement as a general guide to line up the ship with distant destinations along with the nav compass.

The '''Fer-de-Lance''' is a heavy combat ship, featuring a hull that is a bit more resistant to smaller [[weapons]] than other ships of its class,<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=120789&p=1873136&viewfull=1#post1873136 Sandro Sammarco in the Official Forums]</ref> making it well suited in the role of bounty hunting.

Although fast, maneuverable and well armed, the Fer-De-Lance suffers from several major drawbacks which include a poor FSD jump range, a very limited number of internal compartments and an undersized power plant. The recent release of the Horizons expansion corrected the latter problem with the '''Fer-De-Lance '''receiving an upgrade in its power plant, moving up from a class 5 to class 6 module.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: Two top mounted Class 2 medium hardpoints on the nose about 1/4 of the way back from the tip, Two side mounted Class 2 medium hardpoints at about the ship's midpoint, and One bottom mounted Class 4 huge hardpoint between 1/2 and 2/3rds back from the front tip.

The '''Python''' is a heavily armed and well-protected craft, boasting considerable manouvrebility for its hulking size. Despite being exceptionally powerful and potentially useful in a variety of roles, the Python does suffer from exceptionally high operating costs, making it a potentially cost-prohibitive option for many pilots.

It is considered by some to be the most effective balance between firepower, manouvrebility, and protection currently available. In addition to being capable of holding its own against the larger [[Anaconda]] in a toe-to-toe frontal battle through its substantial protection and firepower, the Python''' '''is generally agile enough to comfortably deal with smaller fighter classes without having to rely on turret mounts.

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a class 3 [[shield]] module fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted, both of which is more cargo than the [[Type-7 Transporter]] can carry without shields fitted. Additionally, besides being able to carry more cargo while retaining shields, the Python can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium sized landing pads. However, the downside to trading with a Python is its higher repair/maintenance costs and its shorter jump range when fully loaded.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose mounted hardpoint has good vertical field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimbaled or turreted).
