I've never encountered 3 of them in a wing, but I have never lost to one in single combat while flying my Python. Not to brag, but maybe you just need a change of tactics and/or load-out? I don't use SCBs, since they're a pain in the ass to use on XBox, but I usually throw 4 shield boosters on my Python coupled with an A6 shield. For weapons I go with 2 pulse and 1 burst laser on the large hardpoints, and a pair of seeker missile racks on the mediums. If you're allied with Sirius Gov, Packhounds would probably work better.

Whenever I fight a gunship, I'll target the power plant (of course) but instead of trying to maneuver onto his tail I'll keep 4 pips in weapons and 2 in engines. Stay close to him when possible, and whenever he gets his line of fire on you, boost-turn to force him to turn as well. The trick is to stay 90 degrees to his left or right. He'll have to take more time rolling and then pitching to meet you than just pitching.

Fighting these guys is pretty intense, but it's a bit different than killing an Anaconda because in an iron-assed Python you're much less agile than the raw stats would indicate.

To be fair, Trading and Exploration ranks never existed before this game. That's why it's so ridiculous to try and grind out promotions. The point of trading is the money, but if you're an explorer you probably wouldn't give two rusted shits about the credits. You're either looking to put your name on the galaxy map, or looking for something specific out there in the Deep Black, or you're just trying to get as far away from everyone else as possible.

Another thing for the Pack Hound's effectiveness: If your target has point defense or is skilled enough to target and destroy incoming missiles with his lasers, then you've made a wasted shot and wasted precious seconds with normal seeker missiles. And even better, firing super-duper anime missiles makes you look like a boss.

Looks good, but there's no reason not to A-rate the FSD if you have the credits. You don't lose that much maneuverability compared to a Class D, and if power draw becomes an issue, just put the FSD on priority 5. You won't need it in combat, and you'll have to retract hardpoints to high-wake anyway. The only major drawback is now you'll need to wait the 5 or so seconds for it to come online if you need to bug out in a hurry.
