The Mamba is a ship manufactured by Zorgon Peterson.

Overview
The Mamba's design draws inspiration from Zorgon Peterson's famed Fer-de-Lance and places an emphasis on bringing heavy firepower to engagements.

In Combat, the Mamba It is the second medium ship after the Fer-de-Lance to be capable of mounting Class 4 weaponry, and the third ship overall after the Fer-de-Lance and Beluga Liner to feature six utility slots. In addition to its single huge hardpoint, the Mamba also possesses two large hardpoints and two small hardpoints. This arsenal places it in a narrow niche above the Fer-de-Lance and below the Federal Gunship in terms of raw damage potential for a medium ship. Being a redesigned racing ship the Mamba boasts incredible speed able to outspeed most other ships letting it easily hunt down or escape from others. This comes at a cost to manoeuvrability, however, slightly reducing its overall combat effectiveness. The biggest downside is its Armour; which is significantly lower than the FDL making it much easier to take down. Combined with its lower manoeuvrability, the Mamba can be a glass cannon in many situations.

Like the FDL, the Mamba is suited to Bounty Hunting and little else as all of the former's drawbacks are only exacerbated here. Featuring a miserable 64T maximum cargo capacity, the Mamba is completely unusable for Trading or Mining purposes, and is even less viable for Piracy. Furthermore even if all measures are taken to conserve weight, the Mamba has a maximum jump range of a tiny 18.15lY. This is the lowest Jump range of any FSD capable ship. As a result, when optimised for combat the Mamba can struggle to even jump to neighbouring systems and can be a nightmare to travel across even small distances in space. Furthermore, it boasts better damage with its new hardpoints, against Thargoids and Human vessels, as it can equip size 3 AX weaponry making it a good Thargoid Interceptor hunting vessel. Unlocking Guardian weaponry, which exists in size 3 versions and is also effective against Thargoids, can also be useful in making the ship a multirole fighter with weaponry effective against humand and Thargoid ships.

Cost wise the Mamba is only slightly more expensive than the FDL making it simply become a choice between the two. Overall the Mamba boasts slightly better damage output and greater speeds than FDL but has lower manoeuvrability, reduced armour and a pathetic jump range and cargo capacity as well as being a worse anti-xeno ship. The downsides do outweigh the benefits, however which ship to choose comes down to preference in most situations.

All of the Mamba's hardpoints are located on the ship's dorsal surface. The two small hardpoints are forward of the cockpit, the two large hardpoints are on either side of the cockpit, and the huge hardpoint is behind the cockpit. Four of its utility mounts are on its ventral surface, whilst the remaining two are near the rear of the upper chassis.

The two pilot seats are on the ship's centerline, in a blister-style dorsal cockpit, as opposed to the Fer-de-Lance's slightly-offset pilot's seat. The primary pilot seat is at the front, while the secondary copilot seat is directly behind it and slightly elevated. The Mamba's cockpit includes a secondary pilot seat, giving the ship Multicrew-capability.
*The Mamba will be released with the Chapter Four (3.3) update of Elite Dangerous: Beyond in Q4 2018. Purchasing it requires owning Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

Trivia
*The Mamba first appeared in Elite. It was originally a term for a loose collection of small single-seat high-speed racing ships using the classic 'wedge' or 'delta' hull shape, but the design was later standardized by Raddlett and Rayburn Shipyards in Reorte in the early 3100s. The design has since been acquired by and 'reimagined' by Zorgon Peterson.
*Engineer Bill Turner kept a vintage Mamba among the collection of ships stored at his base, Turner Metallics Inc, on Alioth 4 a.
*The Mamba was first revealed in the beta for Chapter Four (3.3) of Elite Dangerous: Beyond; while it was not initially for sale, players encountered several of the ships beings flown by NPCs.
*The Mamba features the lowest Jump range of any jump capable ship as well the lowest maximum cargo capacity and highest base speed of any medium ship
*The base colour of The Mamba is identical to that of the FDL, as well as boasting very similar engines.
The Mamba is a ship manufactured by Zorgon Peterson.

Overview
The Mamba's design draws inspiration from Zorgon Peterson's famed Fer-de-Lance and places an emphasis on bringing heavy firepower to engagements. The Federal Gunship narrowly surpasses the Mamba in terms of raw damage potential, but it is the second medium ship after the Fer-de-Lance to be capable of mounting Class 4 weaponry, and the third ship overall after the Fer-de-Lance and Beluga Liner to feature six utility slots. With a similar, unengineered build in terms of pure dps, the Mamba deals slightly more damage. In addition to its single huge hardpoint, the Mamba also possesses two large hardpoints and two small hardpoints. The Mamba's cockpit includes a secondary pilot seat, giving the ship Multicrew-capability.

The Engineers are known individuals that can modify your ship's weapons and modules. The Horizons expansion is required to access them as they reside in planetary bases. Engineers can only modify a specific set of weapons and modules depending upon their lore and preference. The Engineers are known individuals that can modify your ship's weapons and modules. The Horizons expansion is required to access them as they reside in planetary bases. Engineers can only modify a specific set of weapons and modules depending upon their lore and preference. Some engineers are suited more for explorers whilst others for bounty hunters.
In total there are 20 engineers. Before you can get an invite to an Engineer's base you must learn about them first, either through common knowledge or from hearing about them through other Engineers.

To be able to get an invite to an Engineer's base, you first have to meet their invite requirements (listed as How to Get Invite in table below). These requirements vary and some engineers are easier to obtain an invite than others. Once invited and having traveled to their base, you can unlock their services by doing a task that they ask you to do, such as providing a commodity they require.

Engineer Ranks
Upon unlocking their services you are given a reputation rank to the engineer, going from 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest reputation achievable. These reputation ranks determine what level of modification you can do, with every modification crafted your progress to the next reputation level increases. As you increase your reputation with the Engineer you will be able to craft higher level modifications which provide increased effects.

While you can craft modifications in order to increase your reputation level, you can also increase the level by making a profit with the engineer. Depending on the Engineer, you might be able to sell commodities, exploration data or bounty vouchers:
Engineer Reputation Level
Required Profit
Grade 1
Unlocked as soon as Engineer task has been completed
Grade 2
Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 500,000 Credits
Grade 3
Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 2,000,000 Credits
Grade 4
Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 8,000,000 Credits
Grade 5
Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 16,000,000 Credits

It should be noted that Engineers may not be able to craft all 5 modification levels for a module type.

Crafting with an engineer
Materials are required by the engineers to upgrade modules on the player ship. Each blueprint specifies which materials are needed, and how to get them (either from destroying ships, completing missions, and visiting signal sources, or from a planetary surface ). Different engineers require different materials, meaning not all materials gathered can be used by the same engineer.

Before you upgrade a module, you will see an information screen that lists the materials needed for the modification, the possible range for applied effects (with each effect having a minimum and maximum change value), and the percentage chance to receive a special effect (which only applies to weapons). You will only see the exact outcome of the upgrade after you have committed to spending the materials. It is also possible to choose to decrease the level progressing with an engineer for a guaranteed special effect on the module after reaching at least reputation level 2. After spending the resources to craft the upgrade, you may either choose to accept the changes, discard them or retry the modification. If you choose to discard the changes, any previous engineer upgrade on that module will remain and the materials used in the making are used up. With either choice your engineer level will increase.

Please note that you can only have one upgrade modification installed per module. Installing a new modification will remove the old modification permanently. Thus it is not possible to have a module with multiple modifications. This limitation should not be confused with the number of stat changes and effects a modification has, as these are determined by the particular modification and can be numerous.
