The '''Type-10 Defender''' is a [[Lakon Spaceways]] ship that represents a comprehensive revision of the [[Type-9 Heavy]]. The [[Alliance]] commissioned Lakon to build the Type-10 to combat the escalating [[Thargoids|Thargoid]] threat following a series of [[Thargoids#Station attacks and Medusae|attacks]] against [[Station]]s in the [[Pleiades Nebula]]. ==Overview==
The interior of the Type-10 is identical to that of the Type-9, including the same co-pilot placement. It also has the same hardpoints, however, it now has 4 additional large hardpoints; 2 on both the top and bottom, near the medium hardpoints. The utility mounts are similarly located in the same places, with a few extra dotted in symmetrical fashion

Like the Type-9 Heavy it was based on, the Type-10 Defender is a slow, bulky ship, having the tied lowest manoeurvability with it, however substantial modifications to the design give it more versatility. The Type-10 is not only somewhat faster than the Type-9, but has stronger armour, better heat management, double the utility slots, four added large weapon hardpoints, and two Military Compartments, making it a viable warship. The Type-10 retains the Type-9's compatibility with [[Multicrew]] and ability to mount a [[Fighter Hangar]].

When compared to similar ships in its price range, those being the big three, [[Anaconda]], [[Imperial Cutter|Cutter]] and [[Federal Corvette|Corvette]], the Type-10 has better armor and similar shielding to the Anaconda, as well as the single best potential damage output in the game. While this works on paper, a position where all hardpoints can converge on a single target is borderline impossible due to the ship's mobility and hardpoint spacing. Its low mobility compared to the other three also makes it easy to counter and gimballed weapons may never even have an opportunity to hit a target, thus turret hardpoints are highly recommended. Another issue shared with the Type-9 is its issues with bounty hunting; its low speed and woeful mobility makes catching up to targets both in and out of [[Supercruise]] very tricky and [[Interdiction|Interdictions]] become difficult to perform and avoid. Unlike the Type-9, it also cannot hold a class 8 [[Shield Cell Bank]] alongside its class 8 [[Shield Generator]], which could prove problematic. It also suffers from a low jump-range when compared to the other big three.

The Type-10's focus on combat-readiness gives it another disadvantage over the Type-9: reduced cargo capacity. While the Type-10 can still haul more than most other ships and can be configured into a well-protected heavy trader, the Type-9's higher capacity and lower purchase price makes it the superior choice for pure trading. Furthermore the Type-10 attracts the highest class of pirates; usually flying Anacondas or better which can prove a huge nuisance when outfitted for trading; however, its higher Mass Lock Factor can help in this situation.

Despite the issues the Type-10 is one of the best ships in PVE combat; having turreted hardpoints set to fire at will can allow the ship to destroy most adversaries without the player needing to press a button, making it possible to use fighter hangers without the need of a crew member. This also makes it a deadly NPC ship to fight against.

The Type-10 also features mobile structural elements, like the [[Diamondback Explorer]]. The ship's small wings are extended during flight, but will fold up when landing gear is deployed.

The Type-10 has an available 12 piece cosmetic [[Ship Kits|Ship Kit]] that can be purchased from the [https://www.frontierstore.net/game-extras/elite-dangerous-game-extras/type-10-defender-ship-kit.html Frontier store] which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The '''Cobra MkIII''' is a larger and more popular version of the original Cobra MkI. It was first seen in service in 3100 AD, originally manufactured by Cowell & McGrath Shipyard, [[Lave]]. Since Cowell & McGrath's acquisition by [[Faulcon DeLacy]] it is now branded as a Faulcon DeLacy made ship.

The Cobra's carrying capacity, being more than double that of the [[Hauler]], and its cost, being almost one third that of the [[Type-6 Transporter|Type-6]], makes it a logical stepping stone for aspiring [[trader]]s as there is no other ship capable of hauling more cargo at the Cobra's size and cost. In addition to its large cargo hold it has much better combat potential than freighters and can defend itself or run away from hostile [[interdiction]]s. What's more is that the Cobra is an ideal craft to plunder the space lines in for a [[pirate]] or [[smuggler]] due to the Cobra's ample capacity for loot, the ability to outrun most other ships and its relatively low heat signature. With engineer modifications it can be a potent ship in PVP combat.

In the hands of a skilled pilot an armored cobra with the combination of fixed weaponry and silent running techniques can take on much larger vessels such as the Python or Anaconda.

The downside of this ship is the combat ability relative to other ships. For bounty hunters who are attempting to tackle skilled opponents the Cobra MkIII can be outmanoeuvred by [[Eagle MkII]]s and [[Viper MkIII]]s while being easily outgunned by [[Python]]s and [[Anaconda]]s.

The Cobra MkIII is also a good and affordable [[explorer|exploration]] ship due to the sizeable [[Fuel Tank]] (x16) and the amount of [[Internal Compartment]]s which allows for the placement of the necessary exploration modules such as a [[Discovery Scanner]], a [[Detailed Surface Scanner]], a [[Fuel Scoop]] and an [[Auto Field-Maintenance Unit]] without the need to remove the [[shield]].

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: 2 medium hardpoints in front of cockpit on top of ship, 2 small hardpoints on the underside of the ship. The distance between the two small hardpoints is sizable, which may cause some trouble when mounting multiple fixed weapons since it's hard to hit with all of them at the same time.

The pilot's station is offset to the left of the ship's centerline. The auxiliary station is offset to the right of the ship's centerline and is even with the pilot's station.

The Cobra MkIII has an available 16 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the [https://www.frontierstore.net Frontier store] which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.

An single earlier iteration of the Cobra MKIII (produced decades before the development of modern small-scale [[Frame Shift Drive|Frame Shift Drives]]) belonging to the famouse [[Jameson Memorial|CMDR Jameson]] was recently found crashed on a planet's surface following extensive investigation into the [[INRA]] by the Galactic Community. This vessel appears very similar in shape to the current generation of MKIII crafts, though differs visually on it's dorsal section, that appears to have a different heat vent configuration.
