What is up with the corvette's speed? It has a 10% advantage on an anaconda stock, but it's actually slightly slower when you upgrade the 7E to a 7A. It's not like the better thruster brings more mass with it.

I was thinking I'd get a speed boost when I traded up for a corvette, but instead the opposite. SAD!

Being allied with the empire is meaningless. As a result, trade and bounty hunting and warzone combat is meaningless, as far as I can tell. I've found that if you just spam 0-reward missions for empire aligned factions, you should get advancement missions relatively quickly. Got 4 ranks in Empire today doing that. And I've been playing for months and got Allied months ago, with no advancement missions until I started doing missions (I'd just been doing combat, my own trade/smuggling, or exploration without taking any missions before now).

Increased pay is nice but I earned most of my pay before 1.2, so.. eh.
