The '''Imperial Cutter''' is the [[Empire|Imperial Navy's]] counterpart to the [[Federal Corvette]],<ref>"The Imperial Cutter fulfills a similar role as the corvette for the Imperial Navy" - http://inara.cz/galaxy-shipyard/75</ref> and requires an [[Empire/Ranks|Imperial Navy rank]] of Duke in order to be purchased. With a base cost of almost 209 million credits, it is the most expensive ship in [[Elite Dangerous]], followed by the Federal Corvette and the [[Anaconda]]. Comparing the Imperial Cutter with those two ships (sometimes collectively referred to as the "big three" by the community), the Imperial Cutter is a multipurpose-specialized ship, much like the Anaconda, while the Federal Corvette is geared more toward the combat role. As it is a multipurpose ship, the Cutter excels in multiple roles. The Imperial Cutter is currently the second largest playable ship, behind only the [[Beluga Liner]]. The Cutter is a heavily armed ship, featuring four medium [[hardpoint]]s: two on the nacelles and two on the chin; two large hardpoints on top of the ship and a single huge hardpoint on the chin. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed. It has 8 utility mounts and is one of the 7 ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] for [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]] as of the release of [[Horizons]]: Guardians.

With a staggering 792 tons of max cargo capacity, the Imperial Cutter has the largest cargo bay of all playable ships in the game, an almost 50% increase in size from the [[Type-9 Heavy]], while having significantly better defensive and offensive capabilities and speed than the latter. This makes it an ideal ship for traders. However it is also the most expensive ship in the game at a cost almost three times higher than a Type-9, and requires very high rank with the Empire to purchase.

Unlike the Type-9, it is extremely well-shielded, very fast for its size, and heavily armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role, as well as being more than capable of rivaling a Corvette or Anaconda in combat. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of medium weapon mounts, the Cutter is an excellent choice for mining.

The pilot's station is offset to the right of the ship's centerline. Currently, the primary and secondary fire group HUD brackets are misaligned with their centerline being far above where the weapon reticles appear. This means that it is not possible to use the center of the side brackets to align the ship with a destination as doing so will cause the ship to fly under the target and not straight at the target. Instead, for alignment in supercruise, use the center space between the repeating series of bars that appear to indicate speed and movement as a general guide to line up the ship with distant destinations along with the nav compass.

The '''Type-9 Heavy''' is a heavy freighter and is the largest of the four freighters manufactured by [[Lakon Spaceways]]. Currently it has the third largest cargo capacity of any ship available behind only the [[Federal Corvette]] and the [[Imperial Cutter]]. This ship is roughly competitive with the much pricier Anaconda for trading purposes. Pilots that can afford an [[Anaconda]] frequently prefer them for trading, as they feel the greater FSD range and manoeuvrability makes up for the slightly smaller cargo capacity, allowing the Anaconda to move more cargo more quickly overall, and to a wider variety of destinations. This is at least partly a matter of 'feel', however, and many pilots continue to use the Type 9 as a trader even after obtaining Anacondas.

The Type 9 exhibits worse manoeuvrability and lower speeds than any other ship in the game; it has extreme difficulty in shaking smaller [[ships]] from its blind spot(using a [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] could help prevent this). Its five weapon [[hardpoint]]s, including three medium mounts, allow it at least some defense. Equipped with turrets, they can at least force smaller ships to operate with caution and give the Type 9 a chance to escape, but its shields are nearly as bad for its size as its manoeuvrability. Most combat ships have a good chance to take it down if it doesn't get away quickly enough.

It first appeared in the development diary videos and in some of the live streams done by [[Frontier Developments|Frontier]]. Later it appeared in the early Alpha stages and is one of the four ships that was in the first release of the Premium Beta.

Many pilots have problems fitting through the entrance of [[Station]]s while they're first getting used to the Type 9, and it can therefore be very expensive for a new pilot to get used to. A [[Standard Docking Computer]] can be useful for players who have trouble docking this ship.

Type-9 is one of two ships in the game that boasts an open Class 8 internal module (the other one being the [[Imperial Cutter]]), although putting anything but a [[Cargo Rack]] into the Type 9's class-8 module slot eliminates a major portion of its cargo capacity and virtually neutralizes it as a serious trading ship.

It should also be noted that the type-9 heavy has better manoeuvrability when stopped; even though it isn't very useful in combat, it's handy for docking.

At a base cost of almost 147 million credits, the '''Anaconda''' used to be the most expensive ship in [[Elite Dangerous]], until the [[Federal Corvette]] and the [[Imperial Cutter]] took that title when they were added. It is a slow but enormous vessel that excels in all roles: combat, exploration and trading, and was the pinnacle of a late game ship. As it stands the Anaconda is now the third most expensive ship, but it doesn't have any rank requirements with the [[Federation]] or the [[Empire]] associated with it and is therefore easier to acquire than the [[Federal Corvette]] or the [[Imperial Cutter]]. Of the ships able to be piloted by a player in the game, the Anaconda is currently the fifth largest in volume and the fourth longest, being surpassed in length and volume by the [[Beluga Liner]], [[Imperial Cutter]] and [[Federal Corvette]] (in that order), and in volume by the [[Type-9 Heavy]].

The ship's bridge is located on the top of the ship roughly at its midpoint. The pilot's station is positioned at the center of the bridge, with 2 copilot seats on either side. The bridge features an open design, providing great viewing angles both up and to the sides from the horizontal position from the pilot's point of view. However the ship's nose obstructs view underneath the ship, which makes docking somewhat difficult. In a combat scenario 2 large hardpoints and 2 utility mounts are deployed directly in front of the bridge, which can obstruct the pilot's view when they fire.

Boasting an array of weapon [[hardpoint]]s, this ship is a formidable [[combat]] ship capable of holding its own against multiple opponents. It, the [[Fer-de-Lance]], the Federal Corvette, and the Imperial Cutter are the only [[ships]] capable of equipping the powerful Class 4 weaponry. The weapon hardpoint locations are as follows: Two Class 3 Large hardpoints top mounted side-by-side to each other in front of the cockpit and about 1/3 the ship length back from the front tip with slightly blocked aft line of sight. One Class 2 Medium hardpoint side mounted on each side near the front tip of the ship (2x Class 2 medium hardpoints total) with decent lines of sight. One Class 3 Large hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship, near the tip of the ship, with somewhat blocked aft line of sight. One Class 4 Huge hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship at about 1/3 of the ship length back from the front tip, mounted slightly lower than the underside class 3 hardpoint, with nearly uninterrupted forward and below lines of sight and somewhat blocked aft lines of sight. Two Class 1 Small hardpoints mounted on the underside of the ship, side-by-side to each other, at the very back of the large rectangular Cargo bay shaped area, with nearly uninterrupted lines of sight in all underside directions but have limited firing arc convergence with the top mounted class 3 large hardpoints, namely in front of the ship. Overall the Anaconda is one of the most heavily armed ships in Elite Dangerous, however players may struggle to utilize this effectively because of its lack of maneuverability and power control problems when high level modules are installed. Also of note is that the Anaconda is currently one of the three ships with 8 Utility Hardpoints. As of the release of [[Elite Dangerous: Horizons|Horizons]]: Guardians it became one of the 7 ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] module for docking [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]].

The Anaconda has a class 6 internal module slot for the [[Frame Shift Drive|frame shift drive]], which allows it to achieve high jump range albeit at the cost of high fuel consumption due to its high mass. It has a large number of internal compartments to accommodate the various modules needed for exploration such as [[Advanced Discovery Scanner|scanners]] and [[Fuel Scoop|fuel scoop]]. As such it is a popular choice for explorers, provided they can afford the hefty cost.

Some wealthy [[trader]]s also make use of this ship due to its high jump range, enormous cargo capacity (up to 468T of cargo, a figure surpassed only by the [[Lakon Type-9 Heavy]], the [[Federal Corvette]], and the [[Imperial Cutter]]), and superb defensive capabilities.

Overall the Anaconda is ideal for veteran pilots of all trades who have a large sum of credits at their disposal but don't have high rankings with either of the superpowers. The only downsides of the ship are its sub par speed and maneuverability due to its size, as well as the cost to upgrade and maintain the ship: prices for less essential modules will easily exceed 1 million credits, whereas more important modules are priced in the tens of millions of credits each. The repair fees for the Anaconda are also relatively high, since repair costs are calculated the same way as for all ships, meaning they are based on the purchase price of the ship and its modules. It is usually cheaper to repair an Anaconda's modules using an [[Auto Field-Maintenance Unit]].

As with all other ships the Anaconda gets a 15% discount in price in systems controlled by [[Li Yong-Rui]].

Due to the location of the Cargo Hatch on the Anaconda, deploying an SRV from Horizons will cause the SRV to fall the distance to the ground, or in the case of boarding it will cause the SRV to float upwards. Due to the Hatch location it can also be difficult to get the SRV in the correct position to board, transfer cargo, etc.
