Heat sinks can be used to temporarily cool the ship by transferring all internally stored heat to them and then ejecting them from the ship.

Heat sinks are most commonly used in connection with [[Silent Running]] or with larger ships dumping excess heat when making multiple hyperspace jumps. With release of the Horizons-Update, heat sink launchers also became important to prevent overheating due to the use of shield cell banks.

Deploying a heat sink when weapons systems are overheated will also speed up the cool down process. The heat sink launchers are installed on a ship's Utility Mount and you can install more than one providing your ship has additional Utility Mounts to install them in. Each heat sink has a capacity of 3 sinks and each sink can hold approx 90-100% of the ship's maximum heat capacity. Heat sinks can be launched via a dedicated key binding or launched via the fire button of the fire group the launcher is assigned to. Hardpoints do not need to be deployed to launch a heat sink.

Heat sinks are now functional outside of normal space and can be used while in Supercruise.

<s>Note that the key bound to "launch heat sink" does not always launch a sink while in Super Cruise. To work around this, use a fire button instead (assign it to a fire group before entering supercruise select the fire group prior to entering supercruise).</s>

If you use fire groups to launch heat sinks, make sure each launcher is bound separately. Otherwise, every sink bound to that key will launch at once, depleting ammo.

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a class 3 [[shield]] module fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted, both of which is more cargo than the [[Type-7 Transporter]] can carry without shields fitted. Additionally, besides being able to carry more cargo while retaining shields, the Python can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium sized landing pads. However, the downside to trading with a Python is its short jump range when fully loaded.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose mounted hardpoint has good vertical field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimbaled or turreted).

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a class 3 [[shield]] module fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted, both of which is more cargo than the [[Type-7 Transporter]] can carry without shields fitted. Additionally, besides being able to carry more cargo while retaining shields, the Python can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium sized landing pads. However, the downside to trading with a Python is its short jump range when fully loaded.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose mounted hardpoint has good vertical field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimbaled or turreted).
