My best guess has to do with Thargoids. Some of their attacks cause the hull of the ship to deteriorate unless treated by a specific kind of limpet. It is safer to jump away from them, then drop somewhere else to fix it so the limpet doesn't get destroyed. An emergency drop would cause 1% damage, but if it takes time to slow down and hull is at 4%, it may be better to drop.

My first recommendation is make sure your cargo bay is empty. The game will want to try to transfer it to the new ship.
Second, the station you are at may not have an outfitting station at it. Not every station will allow you to change your ship's loadouts.

The only problem with this is that shield generators are put into an "optional" compartment, so it is impossible to truely "replace" a shield generator as you can just put it into another optional slot.

Maybe give it a stat where it's affects can be interrupted if there is a positive energy field close by (the field created by shield generators)?
