Question: The description says "Second only to the Cobra in terms of speed." However, I know the earliest Imperial Clipper (in games v1.0 and 1.1, possibly later) the Clipper suffered from a bug where it had much lower mass than its stats indicated, which is why those pilots who owned one back then might recall being able to equip shields that should have been impossible (due to shields' maximum mass allowed being lower than the reported Clipper mass).

My question is, between the "fixing" of the artifically low mass bug, and further the introduction of new ship classes, I highly doubt the statement it is "second only to the cobra in speed" is still true. That's just speculation though; can anyone confirm?

Highly doubt it. The Clipper is already one of the most flexible higher-end ship classes in the game; more firepower than most heavy fighters with a Type-7's cargo hold to boot. Adding a fighter bay on top of that could cross the line into making this ship grossly overpowered given its huge internal slots (meaning it could equip far better fighters than most combat ships, on top of its already good firepower) unless fighter bays would nerf other stats to compensate.
