A standard docking computer is a ship module that automates docking with a space station or surface station (in ED Horizons). The process can be slow so it is not recommended for pilots who need to dock quickly.

<p style="color: red; text-align: center;">-Warning- Docking Computers are not perfect and may not work correctly at times, which can result in the destruction of
player ships. Although improper functioning has become very rare since v1.4, it does occur so remember that you can override the auto-dock sequence with throttle input or by turning off power to the standard docking computer in the modules tab.</p>

Uses
A docking computer can be used with any ship and might be especially handy for players who find the docking process to be hard or don't want to keep doing it every time they dock. It is very useful to dock larger ships too, as those require more precise maneuvering.

The docking computer is automatically activated when docking permission is granted. If the ship is moving a message will appear to slow down before the docking computer will take control of the ship. When the throttle is set to zero or if the ship was initially stopped, the docking computer will begin maneuvering the ship. To cancel the auto-docking computer sequence and hand control back to the pilot, disable the docking computer module or put power to forward/backward thrusters.

Note: Docking computers tend to have trouble if anything bumps you, especially as you pass through the docking port. Generally they are reliable, but will sometimes cut out once inside the station leaving you to manually traverse to your pad.

Note: Docking computers will self deploy landing gear if the landing gear are not deployed before auto-dock is initiated. Docking Computers will dock you faster if you let them self deploy landing gear compared to pre-deploying the landing gear before auto-dock.

Note: Docking Computers may help prevent getting reckless flying fines from collisions as even when traveling above 100 m/s the speeding warning indicator does not appear while auto-docking.

Note: It is a common practice to manually fly into the station or to the landing pad and letting the docking computer engage by pressing the 'X' key, which sets all throttle to zero and thus results in almost instant transfer of control to the docking computer.
History
Docking Computers first appeared in the original Elite game. They were costly, but worth the investment as docking was - for the time - a complex process, during which even experienced players occasionally crashed their ship. Automated docking also was faster.

During automated docking, the computer would play "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II, a reference to the (very slow) docking scene in movie 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick which was set to the same piece.

Trivia
* First appeared in Standard Beta 1

Basic map information
The map will cover procedurally generated galaxy, our own “Milky Way” hosting over 100 billion stars (including our own, and by extension, the planet Earth), each solar system with anything up to one hundred bodies in them (moons, planets and more).

* The galactic map is a standard module in all cockpits of jump-capable ships.
* Map is presented as a 3D hologram in the cockpit.
* Player can zoom differing levels of view (whole galaxy or system map).
** Presets
*** Whole galaxy
**** Shows key landmark systems and celestial objects
*** Zones
**** Human, Federation, Imperial, Alliance space
**** Geographic space (e.g. Orion spur, Hyades, Pleiades)
**** Player selected area of interest
*** Systems

Type of map states
* Name of objects
* Search returns list
* Selecting item on list selects that location

Player own favourites and bookmarks.
* Player can have a list of selected locations
* Locations can be added and removed from the list
* When selecting location on the list - selects that location

Map filters
Systems
Toggles can be used to control which systems are displayed in galaxy view, with configurable fade-offs.
* All
* Bright and dark systems
* Economy type (agricultural/industrial)
* Landmark objects (nebula, pulsars etc...)
* Routes between systems
* Zones of allegiance
* Busy routes

Aides
Various aids to using the map can be toggled on and off.
* Galactic plane: Absolute
** True galactic plane
** Systems shown with stalks to indicate separation from plane
** Becomes less useful when further away from plane
** Allows shortcuts to specific camera views

Data
Toggles can be used to control what additional data can be displayed.
* None
* Trading (Value, quantity, profit, loss, trade routes and production)
* Piracy
* Bounties collected
* Traffic
* War zones
* Factions
* Player history (Trading, travel, combat, exploration and beacons)
* Friends/Groups (Current locations)

Buy and sell map upgrades
Players can buy map data from authorities to expand their ships computers library of maps.
* New map data will allow the player to travel to new locations without needing to explore.
* Map data that is bought from authorities is not to the highest level of detail and can be improved with player gathered data.
* Map data includes hyperspace routes to systems and major points of interest in that system.
* The pilots federation will always pay players for the first successful jump they make using the exploration method (If the player bought the map data for the jump they cannot sell the data), even if the player is not the first person ever to make the jump (the pilots federation use the data to improve their telemetry and keep maps up to date)
* Players can sell map information they have gathered to other players as well as authorities.
** This is done through a trade interface similar to the trade goods trading interface.
** Players can sell hyperspace routes from their location to any single system they have explored to.
** The purchasing player then offers a price (this can be 0 if it is a gift), and if both players are satisfied they agree to the trade.
** Players can also trade in map system data including locations of points of interest using the same method.

Heatmaps
# Probes will give the player heat-map style data to help guide the player to the correct coordinates for a jump.
# Heatmap data might be ambiguous, creating skill based gameplay where the player learns to interpret the readings they receive.
# Different equipment can determine the quality of heatmap data.

What to do in the map view
Plotting a hyperspace jump

Automatic course
# Origin already selected (current system)
# Player selects destination system
# Select plot course: Sat Navigation style options for configuring route is for Quickest or safest route
# If there is a viable route then this is displayed, the destination is locked into the hyperspace computer so if jump initiated this is the target

Manual course
# Origin already selected (current system)
# Player selects destination: If within jump range and has enough fuel then add as hyperspace target
# Repeat above, but add new points to the jump chain
# Player confirms last jump and jump is locked

How do I find the system/planet/station that I have named?
# Open the search box
# Type in target name
# Select from returned list

I have a cargo of beans. Where can I sell it?
# Activate filter to show trading data
# Activate filter to show non-agricultural systems
# Select system with low trading traffic and attempt to plot course

I am a bounty hunter and looking for new targets
# Activate piracy filter
# Activate security level filter
# Systems with high piracy and low security should be good hunting grounds

I am an explorer and want to find somewhere new
# Activate not explored filter
# Select system within range not explored

195.243.28.250: /* Usage */ added question about re-engeging modulesb when retracting weapons.

PAGENAME is a form of smart power management. By manipulating the power draw priority of selected modules the power limit of ships can be effectively exceeded without shutting down vital ship functions especially when weapons are being deployed.

This method is a way to allow for the integration of more higher-quality compartments into ships whose power plant would otherwise be inadequate in providing the power capacity necessary to provide all ship modules with energy.

Usage
To set a hierarchy for the modules' power draw, the priority number in the Modules tab on the right-side panel can be changed for each module. Priority numbers range from 1 (highest priority) to 5 (lowest priority). For instance, a module with 5 as priority will shut down first in the case of power draw excess.

The goal is to set the highest number for those modules which are expendable in combat. This includes Cargo Hatch, Frame Shift Drive, Fuel Scoop, and others.

If done right, whenever power draw exceeds power output now, those modules with the highest number will be automatically disabled first, and the ship is kept completely operational in and out of combat as a result.

This article needs information on wether the low-priority system do automatically re-engage if weapons are retracted or if they need to be reactivated manually.

Example
The following table lists a rather power-consuming bounty hunter loadout for the Vulture including assigned module priorities and the power usages between deployed and retracted hardpoints. Without setting module priorities, this particular loadout would render the ship entirely inoperational due to excessive power draw.
A ship that is in Supercruise is using its Frame Shift Drive to accelerate to speeds from 30 kilometers-per-second to superluminal (faster-than-light), allowing a ship to cross entire solar-systems in a relatively short amount of time.

In Supercruise, speeds are typically measured in multiples of the speed of light, represented as C or in Megameters, represented as Mm (1C = 300Mm/s). A ship that is traveling at 1c is therefore traveling at the speed of light. Speeds in Supercruise are highly dependent on distance from bodies of mass, and achieving higher speeds is only possible by distancing oneself from large bodies of mass.

It should be noted that in Elite: Dangerous, FTL travel is not subject to relativity; a ship's frame of time is always the same as to the surrounding universe.

# Select target that is in-system through the Navigation Panel
# Use the Supercruise button (default is <code>J</code>) - Supercruise will be engaged
# Once the FSD is charged, throttle up to engage Supercruise
# Use flight controls to navigate as usual
# Keep an eye on where your Target Information is displayed - Try to get the vertical orange lines within the blue sections at the same time
# Press the Supercruise button again to disengage Supercruise mode

Notes
* Use Hyperspace when traveling to other systems.
* Maximum Supercruise speed is determined by the proximity to stellar bodies and the direction the ship is heading relative to the stellar body.
** Heading towards a stellar body will decrease maximum speed while heading away will increase maximum speed.
* Supercruise cannot be engaged if the ship is Mass Locked (i.e. too close to a large body of mass such as stations or planets) or if it has anything deployed (such as Landing Gear, Cargo Scoop, or Hardpoints).
* The blue lines in Supercruise are indicators of a planet - As the circles spread outwards from the center your ship is getting closer.
* The orange lines in Supercruise are indicators of stellar body orbits.
* You can not use Supercruise to travel between systems.

Trivia
* Maximum Supercruise speed (when not affected by stellar bodies) is 2,001c and takes 57 min to reach.
** It would take 4h 22m 51s to travel 1 light year at maximum Supercruise speed.
* Using Supercruise to travel between system will just get the targeted distance from the starting system.
