The Keelback is a freighter ship with enhanced combat capabilities based on a Type-6 Transporter chassis. It debuted in the 1.5 "Ships" update on December 2015. It was first mentioned in a list from the Answers from the Devs where it said it is an upcoming ship.

As this had never been heard of, people speculated that it was an alternative name to the Panther Clipper. However, on a stream David Braben revealed that it is a ship similar to the Lakon Type-6 Transporter, but with better weapon hardpoints. It also has a better power plant at the cost of fewer internal compartments.

The ship has firepower similar to most of small combat ships, boasting two small and two medium hardpoints. Two medium hardpoints are located on top of the ship, very close to the cockpit, and two small hardpoints are located on the bottom of the ship a bit further back than the medium hardpoints. One of three utility mounts is located on the nose of the ship directly above the frontal landing gear piece, and two more on top and at the back.

This ship is capable of mounting a fighter hangar.

It also has rotating engine pods on each side that seem to help with manoeuvering.

Purchase Locations
It can usually be purchased at Large population (5m +) and greater systems.

The Orca is a large ship manufactured by Saud Kruger and is currently one of three known passenger ships, the others being the Beluga Liner and the Dolphin.

As a passenger ship, it and its two cousins, the Beluga Liner and the Dolphin are capable of carrying the luxury suite cabins which can transport VIP's.

It handles far better than its official maneuverability rating might indicate, with a remarkably high turn rate combined with high acceleration, and even--unlike the Imperial Clipper, with similar maneuverability--a very powerful strafing ability. Its large silhouette (easy target) and relatively limited hardpoint capacity hinder attempts to use it as a serious combat ship, but fully geared and in skilled hands it makes for an extremely hard target or dangerously effective pirate.
* The Orca sells for a 20% discount at Irkutsk in the Alioth system. (As Alioth is the political center of the Alliance, a system permit is required. Places to get such a permit include Rominger Dock in the 78 Ursae Majoris system. Look for the "Permit Acquisition Opportunity" job on the Mission Board. Be aware that you will need an allied reputation with the Alioth Independents faction in order to accept this job.)
* A 'fasten seatbelt' tone will sound in the cabin when using this ship's boost.
* According to the Newsletter #84, with 0.016% of players piloting it the Orca is the least popular ship in the game.

The Engineers are known individuals that can modify your ship's weapons and modules. They reside in planetary bases and can only modify a specific set of weapons and modules depending upon their lore and preference. Some engineers are suited more for explorers whilst others for bounty hunters.

In total there are 30 engineers with only 5 immediately known. Before you can get an invite to an Engineer's base you must learn about them first, either through common knowledge or from hearing about them through other Engineers.

To be able to get an invite to an Engineer's base, you first have to meet their invite requirements (listed as How to Get Invite in table below). These requirements vary and some engineers are easier to obtain an invite than others. Once invited and having traveled to their base, you can unlock their services by doing a task that they ask you to do, such as providing a commodity they require. Upon unlocking their services you are given a reputation rank to the engineer, going from 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest reputation achievable. These reputation ranks determine what level of modification you can do, with every modification crafted your progress to the next reputation level increases. As you increase your reputation with the Engineer you will be able to craft higher level modifications which provide increased effects. It should be noted that Engineers may not be able to craft all 5 modification levels for a module type.

How crafting with an engineer works
Materials and commodities are required by the engineers to upgrade modules on the player ship. Each blueprint specifies which materials and commodities are needed, and how to get them (either from destroying ships, completing missions, and visiting signal sources, or from a planetary surface ). Different engineers require different materials, meaning not all materials gathered can be used by the same engineer.

Before you upgrade a module, you will see an information screen that lists the materials needed for the modification, the possible range for applied effects (with each effect having a minimum and maximum change value), and the percentage chance to receive a special effect (which mostly applies to weapons). You will only see the exact outcome of the upgrade after you have committed to spending the materials. It is also possible to choose to decrease the level progressing with an engineer for a guaranteed special effect on the module after reaching at least reputation level 2. After spending the resources to craft the upgrade, you may either choose to accept the changes, discard them or retry the modification. If you choose to discard the changes, any previous engineer upgrade on that module will remain and the materials used in the making are used up. With either choice your engineer level will increase.

Please note that you can only have one upgrade modification installed per module. Installing a new modification will remove the old modification permanently. Thus it is not possible to have a module with multiple modifications. This limitation should not be confused with the number of stat changes and effects a modification has, as these are determined by the particular modification and can be numerous.

192.136.161.52: Added info on new engineers

The Orca is a large ship manufactured by Saud Kruger and is currently one of three known passenger ships, the others being the Beluga Liner and the as of yet unreleased Dolphin.

As a passenger ship, it and it's bigger cousin, the Beluga Liner can carry the luxury suite cabins which can transport VIP's.

It handles far better than its official maneuverability rating might indicate, with a remarkably high turn rate combined with high acceleration, and even--unlike the Imperial Clipper, with similar maneuverability--a very powerful strafing ability. Its very weak shields, even weaker than those of the Clipper, combined with its large silhouette (easy target) hinder (but do not entirely prevent) attempts to use it as a serious combat ship, but fully geared and in skilled hands it makes for an extremely hard target or dangerously effective pirate.
Notes
* Initially decals could not be fitted. Now they can and even some basic paint jobs are available (Vibrant pack, Tactical pack, and Military pack)
* The Orca is the only ship in game that cannot fit a optimal sized shield. It requires a size 6 for optimal, but can only take a size 5 in one of the size 5 slots.

192.136.161.217: Got some time and added how to gain rep with the engineers.

The Engineers are known individuals that can modify your ship's weapons and modules. They reside in planetary bases and can only modify a specific set of weapons and modules depending upon their lore and preference. Some engineers are suited more for explorations whilst others for bounty hunters.

These reputation ranks determine what level of modification you can do, with every modification crafted you increases the progress to the next reputation level.

Each blueprint specifies which materials and commodities are needed, and how to get them (either from a planetary surface or from destroying ships).
