The Alliance Crusader is a ship manufactured by Lakon Spaceways for the Alliance. It represents a middle-ground between the Alliance Chieftain and the Alliance Challenger, combining heavy firepower with a Fighter Hangar for Ship-Launched Fighters and two additional pilot seats to accommodate Multicrew. While the inclusion of the Fighter Hangar has resulted in a noticeable decrease in overall speed and manoeuvrability, Lakon is confident that the Crusader can hold its own in any combat situation, especially against the Thargoids.

Overview
The third ship in the Alliance faction ship series and the second variant of the Alliance Chieftain, the Alliance Crusader's primary advantage over the other two Alliance ships is its ability to equip a Fighter Hangar for Ship-Launched Fighters, a feature that both the Chieftain and the Alliance Challenger lack. Consequently, it also boasts an additional pilot seat for Multicrew, giving it a total of three seats versus the two of its companion ships.

The Alliance Crusader possesses an almost identical Hardpoint layout to the Alliance Chieftain, but trades one Class 3 Hardpoint for one Class 2 Hardpoint, making it comparable to a Federal Assault Ship in terms of base firepower. Its increased mass drags its manoeuvrability and speed down when compared to the Chieftain and Challenger, although it does retain the trademark handling features of the ship series. Its agility surpasses that of every other medium-size ship able to launch fighters, including the Krait MkII.

The reduced number of hardpoints of the Crusader is compensated by its ability to deploy Ship-Launched Fighters, resulting in it being a potentially stronger option for combat than it would appear to be at first glance, if a player is utilising a fighter bay.

The Crusader retains the three Military Compartments found in both of its predecessors, but trades the Chieftain's single Class 4 Internal Compartment for two Class 3 slots. This alteration provides slightly more flexibility in terms of module selection, but results in the same maximum cargo capacity as the Chieftain: 120t.

The jump range of the Crusader is lower than that of the Challenger, which places it in the low end of the scale when compared to other ships in the game. This makes the Crusader an unsuitable option for exploration, further emphasizing its specialized combat use. It should be noted, however, that its jump range is slightly higher than that of the Fer-De-Lance, and that it comes with a higher capacity fuel tank.

Compared to the Chieftain and the Challenger, the Crusader has lower mobility and multipurpose potential, as well as reduced weapons loadout versatility due to its lower number of total hardpoints. However, its ability to deploy up to two fighters simultaneously is something that should not be underestimated, especially when these are flown by skilled pilots. Therefore, the Crusader is a decent option for commanders who make good use of ship-launched fighters, but for commanders who do not require such a function or prefer not to make use of it, the Chieftain and Challenger can be better suited to their needs.

When compared to the Krait MkII, the Crusader features significantly lower top speed, superior agility, weaker shields, and a far more durable hull. Compared to the Federal Gunship, the Crusader is faster and far more agile, with higher hull durability and similar but potentially lower shield capacity depending on the loadout (the Crusader must be fitted with a size 5 shield generator if one wishes to make use of a size 6 fighter bay).

The Alliance Crusader is most commonly available in Alliance systems. Despite its name and affiliation, it requires no rank or reputation with the Alliance to purchase.
Notes
*The Alliance Crusader was released with the Chapter Three (3.2) update of Elite Dangerous: Beyond on August 28, 2018.
*The Alliance Crusader's name was accidentally first revealed on the Frontier Store shortly after the release of the 3.1 update. It was promptly removed, leading many to believe that "Alliance Crusader" was an old internal name for the Alliance Challenger rather than a new ship.
*When deployed, the cover for the top mounted hardpoint will clip through the ship.

Trivia
*Like the Alliance Chieftain and Alliance Challenger, the Alliance Crusader is named after a British tank, in this case the A15 Crusader.
*Visually the Crusader can be extremely difficult to distinguish from the Chieftain, as its only visual differences are its back wing and paint scheme.
*The Crusader is the only Alliance ship to not have a white paint scheme, instead being a dark blue

The jump range of the Crusader is lower than that of the Challenger, and is one of the lowest in the game; this makes the Crusader an unsuitable option for exploration, and further emphasizes its specialized combat use.

Compared to the Federal Gunship, the Crusader is faster and far more agile, though with similar hull durability and similar but potentially lower shield capacity depending on the loadout.

The Type-10 Defender is a Lakon Spaceways ship that represents a comprehensive revision of the Type-9 Heavy. The Alliance commissioned Lakon to build the Type-10 to combat the escalating Thargoid threat following a series of attacks against Stations in the Pleiades Nebula. Announced on December 17, 3303, Lakon committed to an aggressive production schedule that delivered the Type-10 in volume to retailers the following week. Lakon intended the Type-10 to be "particularly effective in combat situations".

Overview
The interior of the Type-10 is identical to that of the Type-9, including the same co-pilot placement. It also has the same hardpoints, however, it now has 4 additional large hardpoints; 2 on both the top and bottom, near the medium hardpoints. The utility mounts are similarly located in the same places, with a few extra dotted in symmetrical fashion

Like the Type-9 Heavy it was based on, the Type-10 Defender is a slow, bulky ship, having the tied lowest manoeuvrability with it. It is, far more versatile than the Type-9. The Type-10 is not only faster than the Type-9; it has significantly stronger armour and with a very high hardness value, better heat management, double the utility slots, four added large weapon hardpoints, and two Military Compartments, making it a viable warship. The Type-10 retains the Type-9's compatibility with Multicrew and ability to mount a Fighter Hangar.

When compared to similar ships in its price range, those being the big three, Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette, the Type-10 has better armor and similar shielding to the Anaconda, as well as the single best theoretical damage output in the game. In practice, however, a situation where all hardpoints can converge on a single target is difficult to achieve, especially so with fixed weapons and against medium and small targets, due to the ship's mobility and hardpoint spacing. While the ship is slow when compared to other combat-worthy ships in its class, pilots can make use of its precise and responsive handling to bring weapons to bear upon a target, and ship-launched fighters to intercept and harass that which the Type-10 may struggle to pursue. The ship works exceptionally well with turret hardpoints, having the highest number of size 3 hardpoints of any ship in the game, which is the largest possible size for a turret; this also aids it in covering its blind spots against small and agile opponents.

With a Class 7 frame shift drive, its jump range is second only to that of the Anaconda, and superior to that of the Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter. It should be noted, however, that this ship has low manoeuvrability in supercruise, which makes Interdictions difficult to perform and avoid.

Unlike the Type-9, it cannot hold a class 8 Shield Cell Bank alongside its class 8 Shield Generator, although it has the advantage of a short shield regeneration cycle for its ship size, and a significantly more resilient hull.

The Type-10's focus on combat-readiness comes with a trade-off in potential cargo capacity, as a result of its dedicated Military Compartments. The Type-10 can still haul more than most other ships and be configured into a well-protected heavy trader, but the Type-9's higher capacity and lower purchase price can make it a more attractive choice for pure trading. The Type-10 also attracts the highest class of pirates, equipped with Anacondas or other heavy-hitters. However, its higher Mass Lock Factor enables the ship to enact swift escapes into supercruise.

The Type-10 is a highly effective ship in PVE combat; having turreted hardpoints set to fire at will, can allow the ship to destroy most adversaries without the player needing to press a button, making it possible for the player to personally fly a ship-launched fighter without the need of an NPC crew member to pilot the Type-10.

The Type-10 also features mobile structural elements, like the Diamondback Explorer. The ship's small wings are extended during flight, but will fold up when landing gear is deployed.

The Type-10 has an available 12 piece cosmetic Ship Kit that can be purchased from the Frontier store which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.
Trivia
*The Type-10 Defender's existence was accidentally revealed on August 17, 2017, in an in-game list of Multicrew-capable ships. It was immediately speculated to be a renamed Panther Clipper, a heavy cargo ship which had been expected for years and hinted at in concept art for Elite Dangerous: Horizons, but this was debunked by Frontier Developments. Frontier subsequently teased an unidentified new ship that was assumed to be the Type-10 in a trailer for upcoming 2.4 content at Frontier Expo 2017, but it was not until December 15, 2017 that the ship was officially announced via the weekly Elite Dangerous Newsletter. The Type-10 was finally made available in-game on December 20, 2017 as part of update 2.4, The Return.
*Upon its initial release, the Type-10 retained the same Cargo capacity as the Type-9, in addition to having superior performance in almost all other areas. In the next patch, the Type-9 received an additional Class 8 compartment, bringing its total cargo capacity closer to the Imperial Cutter's.

With a Class 8 frame shift drive, its jump range is second only to that of the Anaconda, and superior to that of the Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter.

Like the Type-9 Heavy it was based on, the Type-10 Defender is a slow, bulky ship, having the tied lowest manoeurvability with it, however substantial modifications to the design give it more versatility. The Type-10 is not only somewhat faster than the Type-9, but has stronger armour, better heat management, double the utility slots, four added large weapon hardpoints, and two Military Compartments, making it a viable warship. The Type-10 retains the Type-9's compatibility with Multicrew and ability to mount a Fighter Hangar.

When compared to similar ships in its price range, those being the big three, Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette, the Type-10 has better armor and similar shielding to the Anaconda, as well as the single best potential damage output in the game. While this works on paper, a position where all hardpoints can converge on a single target is borderline impossible due to the ship's mobility and hardpoint spacing. Its low mobility compared to the other three also makes it easy to counter and gimballed weapons may never even have an opportunity to hit a target, thus turret hardpoints are highly recommended. Another issue shared with the Type-9 is its issues with bounty hunting; its low speed and woeful mobility makes catching up to targets both in and out of Supercruise very tricky and Interdictions become difficult to perform and avoid. Unlike the Type-9, it also cannot hold a class 8 Shield Cell Bank alongside its class 8 Shield Generator, which could prove problematic. When compared to "the big three", its jump range is second only to that of the Anaconda.

The Type-10's focus on combat-readiness gives it another disadvantage over the Type-9: reduced cargo capacity. While the Type-10 can still haul more than most other ships and can be configured into a well-protected heavy trader, the Type-9's higher capacity and lower purchase price makes it the superior choice for pure trading. Furthermore the Type-10 attracts the highest class of pirates; usually flying Anacondas or better which can prove a huge nuisance when outfitted for trading; however, its higher Mass Lock Factor can help in this situation.

The Type-10 is a highly effective ship in PVE combat; having turreted hardpoints set to fire at will, can allow the ship to destroy most adversaries without the player needing to press a button, making it possible for the player to personally fly a ship-launched fighter without the need of a crew member to pilot the Type-10.

The Farragut Battle Cruiser is the mainstay capital ship of the Federation. Heavily armed with classified weaponry, the Farragut stretches over two kilometers long. The backbone of the Federal Navy, it also forms the central core of Federal Navy Fleets.

The battlecruiser is capable of transporting and operating whole groups of Federal Corvettes, alongside housing multiple F63 Condor squadrons. It cannot be piloted by players.

Design
The official The Art of Elite Dangerous art book describes the Farragut:

"In contrast to the opulence of the Empire’s Majestic Class Interdictor, the Federation’s capital ships are brutal, practical war machines inside and out."

"Airtight doors split the interior into many separate compartments. Grab-handles abound, as do access panels and all the paraphernalia of a military vessel. There would be no mistaking a Federal ship’s interior with an Imperial one."

According to David Braben "There will be no gravity, you'll just float around. Things like magnetic boots will make getting around very easy. These would look like normal shoes with fancy technology that make them stick to the surface." "The Federal ship is a lot more Spartan, a lot more just practical warship essentially." "The Federal ship's central section, with design, one of the design briefs we've had is try to design ships with functions in mind. In the Federal ship it's utility that's important. The reason its got this central corridors is this is where ships come out of their hangars. It's to try and protect the hangars from outside. So the reason they face inward and the ships fly out you know they're already up to speed. That would be very heavily protected potentially with shields around it."

Specifications
Core Dynamics Farragut-Class Battlecruisers represent the cutting edge in military technology. A single FBC can carry several squadrons of Federal Fighters and multiple Federal Corvettes across hundreds of light years without any difficulty. These deep deployment capabilities, coupled with extraordinarily heavy firepower, practically guarantee that a single FBC will completely overpower all but the most well-equipped opponents.

A Railgun is a very powerful electromagnetic projectile weapon. Therefore it deals mixed thermic-kinetic damage. It requires a large amount of power to use it and generates a large amount of heat in the process, compared to other weapons but can cause severe damage to the target.

However, its exceptional penetration allows it to hit subsystems even when striking through the opposite side of a hull in most cases. The effective damage of this weapon varies considerably based on shot placement. The railgun has an armour piercing value of 100, meaning it always does full damage to hull regardless of Armour Hardness - though it is still affected by kinetic and thermal resistances. It is also an impulse attack, causing the target to be physically pushed out of its previous trajectory.

In the right hands, the railgun is a potent weapon, especially on small ships. Both Diamondback ships are great for using this weapons, especially the Scout, due to excellent heat efficiency and maneuverability to stay on target. As the railgun projectile moves so quickly it effectively acts like a laser, with no measurable travel time; this makes it easier to use than many other fixed hardpoint weapons which would require leading the target and estimating its movement.

This weapon is only available in fixed mounts, and in class 1 and 2 hardpoints. Range is 3000m, but damage begins to fall off after 1000m.

Munition
Each shot costs 75 CR. The clip size is only a single shot, which takes 1s to reload. The total capacity is 80 shots which can be altered by engineering.

As of version 2.2, the "Plasma Slug" can be added to the weapon by engineers as an experimental effect. A railgun with this effect does 10% less damage and draws a small but noticeable amount of fuel from the active reservoir (22kg class 1, 25kg class 2) to generate ammunition on demand rather than using the normal magazine. Alternatively, ammunition storage capacity upgrades are also available.

Specifications
Damage begins to fall off at 1000m with a total range of 3000m.

Another vaiant is the Imperial Hammer Railgun.
