To put things in context, multicellular life on Earth is about 600-800 million years old, and only arrived after bacteria and cyanobacteria had 2500-3500 million years to form a biosphere and oxygen atmosphere.

Nobody pledges to the pirate king because crime still doesn't pay in Elite Dangerous, up to 2.3.1. It hasn't since the earliest versions, despite several huge buffs to profit from illegal goods, limpets to make things MUCH faster, and the ability to find black markets from the map and not just guess. It pays more than it did, a lot more, but not enough.

The problem is that its reward/time is low, and the risk is extremely high. Smugglers don't stand a chance against a station's firepower if caught. Pirates will be financially ruined by having to pay their bounties when their ship is destroyed. And missions to steal pay less than missions to just freight some goods, even if they give bigger bonuses to reputation. This all makes piracy more of a role playing choice than a serious game choice, a bit like wearing very low tier iron armour in Skyrim like the promotional materials.

Hopefully the buffs will continue and some day piracy will be worth the risks. My suggestion would be to drop all bounties (except the new pilot's build bounty for griefing) once a player's ship is destroyed, and buff stolen goods rewards even more.

I just got access to these and had a few fights with them. Like the original frag cannon, it's hard to actually land a good solid hit with one, made even more tricky by the fact it's fixed. But it does masses of hull damage with a burst. We're talking about maybe what it would take a large multicannon do to over five seconds.

Weird thing is though, if I wire my lasers and multicannons up to my first firebutton and the pacifier to my second, I can't fire the pacifier while firing lasers and multicannons. Doesn't seem to be a heat or capacitor issue, and I know it's not my control pad.

I recently gave one of these a go. They'll let you fire beam lasers a lot longer, usually with their thermal overload kicking in before the capacitor runs out. That makes them good for ambush and sneak attack: use an array of beam lasers to take a shield down quickly and easily, then switch to something with very low capacitor drain such as multicannon or frag cannons. I can now take on ships much bigger than I used to.

But the malus to recharge means that once your capacitors are empty, if you weren't able to take the shields down, you're either going to be spending a longer time not firing anything, or bouncing a lot of ordnance against a shield.

Although there is one caveat: now that ships have an armour value, bigger ships now resist weapon damage better. All weapons have an armour piercing value, with lasers and railguns having among the best, so more of their damage will get through to a big ship.
So you could get better defence overall with Mirrored on a Corvette than with Reactive Composite. But, both it and Reactive are both stupidly expensive, both in terms of buying the module and insurance, so it may be better just to stick with Military Composite.

The Python has bigger guns, more armour, stronger shields and more cargo capacity than an Asp Explorer, but the best thing I found when I moved to it: it has great retros. You can boost, boost, boost to a docking port when you're grining, and count on being able to stop. Can't do that with an Asp: if you boost ''anywhere near'' the dock you'll either overshoot it by miles or smash into it.

Annoying parts of the Python: trying to get lined up on a dock (because pilot is slightly off-centre and it's hard to tell if you're level), shitty jump range, and difficulty running from fights (compared to Asp and Cobra at least).

NPC ships to avoid in a Python: Other Pythons, Anacondas, Federal Gunships, Imperial Clippers, Fer-de-Lance, Imperial Cutters and Corvettes (obviously), and Federal Dropships. That's not to say that you'll lose, just that you'll take more damage than is worth any bounty. Everything else it'll eat alive, even if it's Elite and has rainguns and crap.

This makes reactive highly resistant to anything that isn't lasers. (I'm not sure about incendiary rounds, but I think only a small amount of their damaage is thermal). And as lasers generally have poor DPS with two pips in WEP, this makes reactive possibly the toughest (if not the most well rounded) in the game in most situations.

Ridiculously expensive, much too situational. The only use for these if you are hunting another player who uses lasers exclusively, which never happens.

They get a hull boost of 250% (same as military grade composite), half all incoming thermal damage, but have horrible kinetic (-75%!) and explosive (-50%) resistances. Yes, you read that right: -75%.

Result: Multicannons will chew you up almost as fast than if you had reinforced alloy hull.

That wouldn't be too bad, but you can get military grade composite for less than half the price, which will give you much better staying power than kinetic but isn't too bad against lasers. Because let's face it, lasers are made for taking down shields.

Multicannons are still very popular, but they've changed a lot from from early deadly multicannon loadouts to their modern state in 2.3. If your whole loadout is multicannons, they'll really struggle against decent shields, even with incendiary rounds. If you use lasers and multicannons, you won't do enough damage against hull and armour against bigger ships. They don't penetrate like cannons, they don't splash damage like missiles, and they don't damage modules very well. A Class 4 sounds scary, but a Class 4 cannon will seriously out DPS it.

They're reliable, but low DPS damage dealers, and you really need something else to supply your main punch while the multicannons and lasers are grinding away. A cannon is decent, missiles are good (for medium sized ships), frag cannons are very good, and railguns and plasma accelerators are excellent if you're good enough to hit with fixed hardpoints.
