Only useful for the 15% discount, but everybody gets that. PSM sucks. Ethos suck. His 200% exploration bonus sounds good, but if you think about it, if you're doing any meaningful exploration your rank would have decayed. You'd need to risk months of data getting to rank 5 after your trip.

Combat rank has got nothing to do with the amount of money you make. It is all dependant on the relative ranks of you and your target.

EG If you are master, you'll gain no rank for killing harmless or mostly harmless enemies. The only way to get to Elite from Deadly is by killing Expert and above.

Exploration and Trading is all based on money made.

Something like 1billion trade profit for Elite and ~167 mil Exploration profit for Elite (although you do get exploring xp for driving in the SRV)
