The '''Python''' is a [[Ships|ship]] manufactured by [[Faulcon DeLacy]]. An iconic model, the Python pioneered modular ship design and singlehandedly revolutionized space travel when it was introduced by Whatt and Pritney Ship Constructions in 2700, spurring the rise of the first independent pilots. The modern iteration of the Python continues to be a popular choice, effectively combining utility and durability into a single multipurpose craft that can easily take on a variety of roles.

==Overview==
The Python is considered by some to be the most effective balance between firepower, manoeuvrability, and protection currently available. In addition to being capable of holding its own against the larger [[Anaconda]] in a toe-to-toe frontal battle through its substantial protection and firepower, the Python is generally agile enough for its size to comfortably deal with smaller fighter classes without having to rely on turret mounts.

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a Class 3 [[Shield Generator]] fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted. Additionally, it is the largest cargo capacity of any ship that can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium landing pads; because of this the Python is fantastic for [[Community Goals]]. Although the ship can achieve surprisingly high jump ranges with the proper modules and [[Engineers|Engineering]], additional mass from cargo can quickly drag this down and significantly lengthen the return leg of a trading loop.

In combat scenarios, the Python is more than capable of putting down most other ships. With 5 hardpoints and good placement even larger ships like Anacondas and [[Imperial Cutter]]s must operate with caution in a fight against a Python. Furthermore, it has a staggering [[Mass Lock]] factor of 17; not only is this much higher than any other medium ship it can even mass lock large ships such as Orcas and Type-9s making the Python an excellent choice for Pirating and Bounty Hunting as it has more than enough firepower to cripple targets before they can flee. The ship has one fatal flaw, however; its manoeuvrability. It has less manoeuvrability than other medium ships such as a [[Fer-de-Lance]] or [[Alliance Chieftain]] meaning it will often lose in a 1V1 scenario with either ship as manoeuvrability is an important factor in smaller ship combat and it also struggles against the small [[Vulture]]; which can easily stay under the ship and avoid fire. Turret mounts on the nose and medium hardpoint can help if this becomes an issue. Power is also a problem as the Python will struggle to keep all 5 hardpoints as well as utility mounts and Shield Generator powered. Engineering the Python is highly recommended to avoid this issue

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose-mounted hardpoint has a good 180° field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimballed or turreted).

The pilot's station is offset to the left of centerline and is parallel to the auxiliary station which is offset to the right.

With a base cost of almost 209 million credits, it is the most expensive ship in ''[[Elite Dangerous]]'', exceeding the combat-specialized Federal Corvette and the multipurpose [[Anaconda]]. The Imperial Cutter is also currently the second largest playable ship, behind only the [[Beluga Liner]].

==Overview==
The Cutter is a heavily armed ship, featuring four medium [[hardpoint]]s: two on the nacelles and two on the chin; two large hardpoints on top of the ship and a single huge hardpoint on the chin. The pilot's station is offset to the right of the ship's centerline. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed. It has 8 utility mounts and is one of the eight ships compatible with [[Fighter_Hangar|fighter hangar]] for [[Ship-Launched_Fighters|ship-launched fighters]] as of the release of [[Horizons]]: Guardians.

With a staggering 792 tons of max cargo capacity, the Imperial Cutter has the largest cargo bay of all playable ships in the game, making it an ideal ship for traders. However, it is also the most expensive ship in the game at a cost almost three times higher than a [[Type-9 Heavy]], which has a max cargo capacity of 788 tons; only 4T lesser. It also has a lower cargo capacity when shielded, as the Type-9 can equip a lower class [[Shield Generator]]. The very high rebuy and repair costs of the Cutter makes shieldless runs incredibly risky, so it is important to keep this in mind as every dink and scratch will cut rather heavily into profits and like the Type-9, it is very difficult to dodge an [[Interdiction]] in the Cutter. Combined with its required Imperial Navy Rank can make the Cutter a much less appealing ship for traders.

Unlike the [[Type-9]], it is extremely well-shielded, very fast for its size, and heavily armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing much better use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role, as it is capable of rivaling a [[Federal Corvette|Corvette]], [[Anaconda]] or [[Type-10 Defender|Type-10]] in combat. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of medium weapon mounts, the Cutter is an excellent choice for mining; if rather excessive. Like the Type-9 and Type-10 however the ship has terrible maneuverability and often simply cannot dodge interdictions; which can be very problematic for a trader build as you'll usually be fighting Anacondas or better. Keeping a shield generator on will let it handle most NPC pirates; however, the T-9 will outdo it in terms of cargo capacity in this scenario.

When compared to the other two of the big three, the Corvette and Anaconda, the Cutter has several notable downsides; other than just the price tag. It has much less jump range than the Anaconda; though better than the Corvette and while it has impressive combat potential, its power distributor is not capable of keeping all its hardpoints effectively powered; thus the ship pales in combat potential compared to the other two, and even a [[Fer-de-Lance]] or [[Python]] is more than capable of taking down a Cutter. The awful maneuverability is also a major issue with the ship and makes its combat potential suffer even further and is lower than the other two. Compared to the significantly cheaper Type-10, it has the same maneuverability and less hardpoints although its superior placement and good speed can help it defeat a Type-10 in combat; and it also has much better pitch and yaw speeds.

The Cutter is a very effective multi-purpose ship. The ship sacrifices the exploration focus of the Anaconda and combat focus of the Corvette for trading potential. Thus traders looking for a powerhouse ship complete with style will usually find the Cutter very satisfactory, while fighters and explorers may find the Corvette and Anaconda more useful respectively.

Currently, the primary and secondary fire group [[HUD]] brackets are misaligned with their centerline being far above where the weapon reticles appear. This means that it is not possible to use the center of the side brackets to align the ship with a destination as doing so will cause the ship to fly under the target and not straight at the target. Instead, for alignment in supercruise, use the center space between the repeating series of bars that appear to indicate speed and movement as a general guide to line up the ship with distant destinations along with the nav compass.
