114.44.191.175: remove warning message since the bug is consider fixed. I use this module for over 100 hours after 1.3 patch and no lethal accident occurred.

A standard docking computer is a ship module that automates docking with a space station. The process can be slow so it is not recommended for pilots who need to dock quickly.

It was reportedly buggy before 1.3 patch and even crashed some ships when ducking. After the patch it was improved with ducking speed and stability. Despite some occasional collision, it currently functions fine.

Uses
Docking computer can be used with any ship and might be especially handy for players who find the docking process to be hard or don't want to keep doing it every time they dock. It is very useful to dock larger ships too, as those require more precise maneuvering.

The docking computer is automatically activated when docking permission is granted. If the ship is moving a message will appear to slow down before the docking computer will take control of the ship. When the throttle is set to zero or if the ship was initially stopped, the docking computer will begin maneuvering the ship. To cancel the auto-docking computer sequence and hand control back to the pilot, put power to forward thrusters.

Note: Docking computers tend to have trouble if anything bumps you, especially as you pass through the docking port. Generally they are reliable, but will sometimes cut out once inside the station leaving you to manually traverse to your pad.
History
Docking Computers first appeared in the original Elite game. They were costly, but worth the investment as docking was - for the time - a complex process, during which even experienced players occasionally crashed their ship. Automated docking also was faster.

During automated docking, the computer would play "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II, a reference to the (very slow) docking scene in movie 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick which was set to the same piece.

The PAGENAME is a larger and more popular version of the Cobra Mk. I. It was first seen in service in 3100 AD, originally manufactured by Cowell & McGrath Shipyard, Lave. Since Cowell & McGrath's acquisition by Faulcon DeLacy it is now branded as a Faulcon DeLacy made ship.

The Cobra's carrying capacity, being more than double that of the Hauler, and its cost, being almost one third that of the Type-6, makes it a logical stepping stone for aspiring traders as there is no other ship capable of hauling more cargo at the Cobra's size and cost. In addition to its large cargo hold it has much better combat potential than freighters and can defend itself or run away from hostile interdictions. What's more is that the Cobra is an ideal craft to plunder the space lines in for a pirate or smuggler due to the Cobra's ample capacity for loot, the ability to outrun most other ships and its relatively low heat signature.

The downside of this ship is the combat ability relative to other ships. For bounty hunters who are attempting to tackle skilled opponents the PAGENAME can be outmanoeuvred by Eagles and Vipers while being easily outgunned by Pythons and Anacondas.

The PAGENAME is also a good and affordable exploration ship due to the sizeable Fuel Tank (x16) and the amount of Internal Compartments which allows for the placement of the necessary exploration modules such as a Discovery Scanner, a Detailed Surface Scanner, a Fuel Scoop and a Auto Field-Maintenance Unit without the need to remove the shield.

The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: 2 medium hardpoints in front of cockpit on top of ship, 2 small hardpoints on the underside of the ship. The distance between two hardpoints is quiet large, which may cause some trouble when mounting multiple fixed weapons since it's hard to hit with all of them at the same time.

114.44.191.175: Add some information about heat and torret, which caused me a little trouble when i was new:(

Each ship can equip a variety of energy, projectile and missile based weapons. Most weapons are available in either fixed, gimbal, or turret variants. Weapons are organized into classes ranging from 1 to 4 indicating their relative size (the higher the number the bigger the hardpoint must be to equip the weapon). In the outfitting store fixed weapons are indicated with a crosshair icon, gimbal weapons with a gyroscope icon, and turret weapons with a small turret icon.

Weapons
There are 2 types of weapons; Energy-based and kinetic-based which carry ammunition. In addition there are also weapons used for defence such as the point defence turret. Weapons generate heat, which increases your signature on the radar. When you have more than 100% heat, you will not be able to fire (however, given that you would be overheating, you probably have other problems on your hands). Some high power usage weapon may have lower heat threshold, like Plasma Accelerator and Railgun. The exact heat threshold value currently cannot be found in game, so you have to keep an eye on your heat level when using power consuming weapons.

Energy weapons
These weapons use a charging capacitor and thus do not need ammo, but tend to drain weapon energy quickly and take time to recharge.

Energy weapons are effective at stripping shields, but less effective at destroying hull armour.
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser

Ammunition weapons
Kinetic-based weapons require ammunition to fire but generate less heat and consume less power as a result. Ammunition can be replenished at most stations or outposts.

Kinetic weapons are good against armour, but are not as useful against shields.

The following list is not limited to kinetic weapons.
* Cannon
* Multi-cannon
* Railgun
* Plasma Accelerator
* Missile Rack
* Torpedo Pylon
* Mine Launcher
* Point Defence Turret
* Fragment Cannon

Weapon Mounts
Regardless of type, all weapons are placed in different mounts which determine how they aim at targets:

Fixed
Fixed weapons are rather powerful, but have very little tracking ability - they shoot straight ahead, and can only do minor tracking when the target is within the weapon's crosshairs. Because of this, fixed weapons depend heavily on your ship's manoeuvrability; however, they are cheap, use little power, are not affected by chaff and every weapon is available in a fixed mount.

The following weapons have fixed variants:
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser
* Cannon
* Multi-cannon
* Railgun
* Plasma Accelerator
* Missile Rack
* Torpedo Pylon
* Fragment Cannon

Gimbal
Gimbal means that the weapon is hung in a rotating construction, so it can move independent of the ship's orientation. Gimbal-mounted weapons can keep track of a target even when you're not pointed directly at the target, allowing far more firepower to hit a target. In exchange, gimbal weapons are usually weaker than their fixed counterparts and are vulnerable to chaff as it disrupts the weapon's ability to track the target. Also keep in mind that tracking systems track heat; if a target is not generating sufficient heat, gimbals will not lock on and behave much like fixed weapons. Gimbals also have difficulties targeting sub-systems that have been turned off, through the modules management screen, although they still try to get a lock, it is much less precise.

The following weapons have gimbal variants:
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser
* Cannon
* Fragment Cannon
* Multi-cannon

Turret
Turrets are fully independent auto-firing weapons that have a 360 degree range of fire. Standard turrets generally act autonomously.

Note: You can select one of three "Turret Weapon Modes" from the Functions tab of the Systems menu
# Forward Fire - Your turrets will act as fixed weapons and will be shooting only manually.
# Targeted Enemy - The turrets will automatically shoot targets which you lock manually within a distance of 3km.Cite
# Fire at Will - The turrets will focus automatically on any wanted target which is firing at you. In this mode 2 turrets can focus on different targets at the same time.

The following weapons have turret variants:
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser
* Cannon
* Fragment Cannon
* Multi-cannon

A cannon is a projectile based weapon that fires a large calibre round very similar to a current day howitzer. It uses ammunition and therefore will need to be replenished every so often although your ship is capable of carrying a very large amount of reserve ammunition making restocking not a constant priority. The cannon fires explosive shots that detonate on impact, dealing considerable damage to the targeted subsystem and the systems around it.

Due to the similarities between the cannon and the Plasma Accelerator, the cannon is the perfect weapon for people who cannot afford a 834k accelerator. Although the ammunition price is 20 credits per shot, which is 1/10 time of Plasma Accelerator.

Currently the cannon is available in all three forms of fixed, gimballed and turreted versions. The projectile velocity for cannons is slower than for multi-cannons but slightly faster than the plasma accelerator.

Munitions
Spent ammunition must be replenished once used. Any station equipped with a "Re-arm" service will be able to replenish ammunition. Once docked at the station, ammunition can be purchased from the Munitions menu in the Starport Services.
