108.7.195.209: added dash in order to make "thermal, kinetic, thermal kinetic" less confusing

Each ship can equip a variety of energy, projectile and missile based weapons. Most weapons are available in either fixed, gimbal, or turret variants. Weapons are organized into classes ranging from 1 to 4 indicating their relative size (the higher the number the bigger the hardpoint must be to equip the weapon). Only the Cannon, Multi-Cannon, Pulse and Beam Laser, and Plasma Accelerator have class 4 variants whereas most other weapons have class 3 as their largest variant. In the outfitting store fixed weapons are indicated with a crosshair icon, gimbal weapons with a gyroscope icon, and turret weapons with a small turret icon.

Weapons
Weapon damage is divided into four categories: Thermal, Kinetic, Thermal-Kinetic, and Explosive.

Thermal weapons (lasers) have the benefit of unlimited ammunition, but they also tend to overheat your weapons systems more rapidly than Kinetic weapons do. Thermal weapons deal increased damage to shields and normal damage to a ship's hull.

Kinetic weapons require ammunition to fire and also require reloads when your current magazine runs empty; however, they build up heat slower than Energy weapons. Kinetic weapons deal reduced damage to shields but increased damage to ship hulls.

Thermal Kinetic weapons require ammunition to fire, produce a lot of heat, and require a larger amount of energy to fire. However, Thermal Kinetic weapons are equally effective against shields and hull and tend to have high damage and high penetration. The Railgun and Plasma Accelerator deal Thermal kinetic damage.

Explosive weapons, such as missiles, torpedoes, and mines, are extremely ineffective against shields, but can inflict strong damage to a ship's hull. Explosive weapons have small and limited ammunition supplies, and can be shot down by Point-Defense Turrets. They are capable of being fired without adequate weapons energy reserves at the cost of extreme system heat, which can easily overheat your ship and do module and/or hull damage to your own ship. The explosive blast from Explosive type weapons is capable of damaging multiple ships if they are near the detonation point, which can easily cause "friendly-fire" problems if not used carefully.

Most weapons, with the exception of several explosive weapons, will be unable to fire if there is insufficient energy in the Weapons Energy Capacitor. Increasing the number of pips to the Weapons Energy Capacitor will increase the recharge rate on the Weapons Energy Capacitor, allowing weapons to be fired more frequently. When there is insufficient energy to fire a weapon, a "Thermal Overload" Message will be displayed next to the Weapon's name on the HUD.

Thermal weapons
These weapons use a charging capacitor and thus do not need ammo, but tend to drain weapon energy quickly and take time to recharge.

Thermal weapons are effective at stripping shields.
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser
* Cytoscrambler (Powerplay faction locked)
* Pulse Disruptor (Powerplay faction locked)
* Retributor (Powerplay faction locked)

Kinetic Weapons
Kinetic-based weapons require ammunition to fire but generate less heat and consume less power as a result. Ammunition can be replenished at most stations or outposts. Kinetic weapons are good against hull, but are not as effective against shields.
* Cannon
* Multi-cannon
* Fragment Cannon
* Enforcer Cannon (Powerplay faction locked)
* Pacifier Frag-Cannon (Powerplay faction locked)
* Shock Cannon (Experimental)
* Remote Release Flechette Launcher (Experimental)
* Remote Release Flak Launcher (Experimental)

Thermal Kinetic Weapons
Thermal-Kinetic Weapons require ammunition to fire, generate a large amount of heat, and consume a large amount of energy. However, they deal very high damage and are equally effective against Shields and Hull.
* Railgun
* Plasma Accelerator
* Imperial Hammer (Powerplay faction locked)
* Advanced Plasma Accelerator (Powerplay faction locked)

Explosive Weapons
Explosive Weapons require ammunition to fire. Most explosive weapons can be fired with insufficient energy in the weapons capacitor, but do so at the cost of extreme heat generation that is quite capable of reaching critical heat levels that may cause heat damage to your own modules and/or hull. Explosive Weapons are extremely ineffective against shields, but do greatly increased damage to hull.
* Missile Rack
* Torpedo Pylon
* Mine Launcher
* Pack-Hound Missile Rack (Powerplay faction locked)
* Shock Mine Launcher
* Enzyme Missile Rack (Experimental)

Defensive Weapons
Defensive weapons do not engage Enemy ships or vehicles. They solely fire at incoming explosive weapons.
* Point Defence Turret

Mining Lasers
Mining lasers are a Thermal damage type weapon that while capable of inflicting damage against an Enemy, are ill-suited for use as a combat weapon. They are used to mine fragments from asteroids, and are mostly used in combat as a last resort.
* Mining Laser
* Mining Lance (Powerplay faction locked)

Weapon Mounts
Regardless of type, all weapons are placed in different mounts which determine how they aim at targets:

Fixed
Fixed weapons are the most powerful of the three types, but have very little tracking ability - they shoot straight ahead, and can only do minor tracking of a few degrees (enough to converge on a target at most ranges) when the target is within the weapon's crosshairs. Because of this, fixed weapons depend heavily on your ship's manoeuvrability and your own aiming skills, but compared to other weapon mount types, they are cheaper, use less power, generate less heat, are not affected by chaff, and every weapon is available in a fixed mount.

Certain heavy weapons are only available in fixed mounts.

Every weapon in the game is available in a fixed mount, including standard, Powerplay faction locked, experimental, and mining tool weapons.
Gimbal
Gimballed weapons are mounted within a semi-flexible assembly which allows for limited pitch, yaw, and roll of the weapon within certain arcs limited by both the position of the mount and the actual assembly itself. Though they are not as flexible as Turrets, gimbal-mounted weapons can keep track of targets within a decently-sized cone directly in front of the mounting, making them a little easier to use than Fixed mounts. In exchange, gimbal weapons are usually weaker than their fixed counterparts and are vulnerable to chaff as it disrupts the weapon's ability to track the target.

When fired without a locked target, a Gimballed weapon will act as a Fixed mount instead, firing directly ahead. This can be used to partially bypass the scrambling effect of chaff; unlock the target and track/lead manually until the chaff effect ends.

The following weapons have gimbal variants:
* Beam Laser
* Pulse Laser
* Burst Laser
* Cannon
* Fragment Cannon
* Multi-cannon
* Shock Cannon (Experimental)

Turret
Turrets are semi-independent auto-firing weapons that have a 360 degree range of fire. Standard turrets generally act autonomously, and do not require the hiring of an NPC crewman to act as a gunner. They must be part of the currently active weapon group in order to operate in either the Forward Fire or Targeted Enemy modes, otherwise they will not engage targets, even if they were previously activated.

Compared to Fixed and Gimballed weapons, Turrets are typically far more expensive (usually at least twice as expensive), turrets are in the middle of power consumption from all three weapon types, fixed being the least, and gimballed being the highest, however they have the lowest damage output. They can also be manually controlled by a human/player Gunner when using Multicrew functionality; the Gunner will take control of all Turreted weapons and select targets independent of the Helm, allowing ships to engage multiple seperate hostiles.

Note: You can select one of three "Turret Weapon Modes" from the Functions tab of the Systems menu; it applies to all equipped turrets at once. The modes are;
# Forward Fire - Your turrets will act as fixed weapons and will be fired manually; pull the trigger to fire once, hold down the trigger for continuous firing. This mode removes all the advantages that turrets have, as they will operate as a much lower damage version of their fixed weapon counterpart, but prevents them from being affected by chaff.
# Targeted Enemy - The turrets will automatically track and shoot at your manually locked target, so long as it is within their firing arc(s). The turrets start firing autonomously once you pull the trigger once. Turret firing range varies with turret type; Lasers will engage distant targets, whereas Multi-cannons will only fire at closer ranges due to loss of accuracy - despite their greater maximum range compared to most Lasers.
# Fire at Will - The turrets will fire automatically on any hostile target which is firing at you, once you pull the trigger. In this mode 2 turrets can focus on different targets at the same time. Since you cannot fire first at a target, even if the target interdicted you but did not shoot yet, this is rather a defensive setting.

The following weapons have turret variants:
* Standard weapons (Class 1/2/3 only)
** Beam Laser
** Pulse Laser
** Burst Laser
** Cannon

Ships are used to traverse space and perform a variety of different tasks between traversing. As with previous Elite games, there are a variety of designs.

Currently there are 29 ships, built by a number of manufacturers - each having its own unique style. There are plans to have a total of 30 playable ships and some variants in addition to some non-playable ships. Each ship has access to a range of different modules which they can fit to help specialize as traders, smugglers, bounty hunters, pirates, etc. Of the unreleased ships, every ship listed as upcoming is already represented in game data. Every ship in the speculated ships column is something we have concept art for or developer comments, but is not currently present in the game data.

All commanders begin the game with a Sidewinder MkI. The player may upgrade components or purchase an entirely new ship based upon their needs and available funds. New ships can only be purchased at Stations with the Shipyard service and modules can only be changed or upgrades at stations with the Outfitting service.
Ship Types
Multipurpose
Multipurpose ships are a jack-of-all-trades in that they can easily be fitted for whatever role the player needs; whether it be hauling cargo, ship-to-ship combat, or exploring the stars, multipurpose ships can do it all.

Combat
Combat ships are typically faster, more agile and more heavily armed than other ships of the same size. The exception to this would be gun boats, which have more weapon mounts designed for turrets, but sacrifice their agility for them.

Freighter
Freighters are typically slow, cumbersome and lightly armed, but provide extreme hauling capabilities. Useful for traders and smugglers alike.

Explorer
Exploration ships typically come with large default jump ranges, large Fuel Tanks for ships of their size, and should be fitted with lots of low class Internal Compartments for scanners to optimize jump distance. These ships are designed to be able to equip the multitude of scanning equipment needed for an expedition, then fly long distances into the void without the need for regular refuelling through the use of Fuel Scoops.

Passenger
Couriers who fly passengers and valuable items with small storage requirements have a special class of ships available to them. These ships are elegant and fast, designed to quickly and comfortably get from one system to the next. You can think of them as giant space-limousines. However, as of now, passenger ships have no significant use in the game as passengers themselves have yet to be implemented.
Ship Outfitting
All ships are highly customizable through outfitting. Each outfit slot has a maximum class that can be put into that slot. This only lists what type of outfit slots are available for each ship, their exact content has to be put on some other page. For example: Internal compartments can contain cargo space, where class 1 = 2t, class 2 = 4t, class 3 = 8t, class 4 = 16t... But Internal compartments can also contain shield cell banks, scanners, etc. Apart from classes, outfits also have a quality rating A-H, and other characteristics such as energy drain, armour piercing, etc.

Max class for each outfit slot in table below (more info on respective ship page):
Faction Ships
Frontier are developing a family of ships for the navies of each faction in the game. Examples:
* Imperial Courier - Empire Scout
* Imperial Cutter - Civilian version of Empire Light Warship
* Imperial Fighter - Imperial Fighter
* F63 Condor - Federal Fighter
* Farragut - Federal Capital Ship
* Majestic Class Interdictor - Empire Capital Ship

The fleet-class ships that are available to the game’s major factions follow a hierarchy.

Cruisers (Battlecruisers, Battleships, Interdictors)
Long range, independent ships that are capable of controlling entire systems. Heavily armed and capable of deploying large fighter squadrons. The capital ships already shown are an example of this class. In the Empire they are usually known as “Interdictors” – named after the first successful class of cruisers. Currently the most common and most successful is the Majestic class – generally referred to as a “Majestic class Interdictor”. As ships that can also carry out ambassadorial missions they can be used for ‘soft’ power projection, as well as hard.

Frigates
These are large ships designed for escort duties. The actual vessels vary greatly between navies, but are all designed to engage multiple small, fast enemies (typically fighters and missile swarms) and are loaded with point defence batteries. They will also have some anti-ship capability, but are not designed to go up against other warships.

Destroyers
These are anti-warship vessels, but are generally no longer used in the front line, though some are still in service.

Carriers
Designed for the deployment of fighter squadrons. Obsolete in the fleets of the major factions due to the popularity of Cruisers, but small navies still make use of them and some have even been converted into transporters.

Transporters (Couriers)
Armoured warships designed specifically for transporting valuable assets and cargo quickly and safely.

Corvettes (Cutters)
Light multi-role warships, capable of reconnaissance, incursions and escort missions. These small warships are also popular with smaller factions, organizations and even wealthy individuals due to their adaptability. The Imperial Cutter is a lighter and faster Corvette-class ship, which players will be able to get their hands on in the final game (assuming they can make the right contacts).

Fighters
Small short-range craft that generally cannot operate independently due to having no jump capability. Their main roles include the defence of stations and the large warships that they are deployed from. Commercial fighters are typically jump-capable and are therefore much more flexible than their faction-specific counterparts.

Drones
Small automated ships that have largely been phased out due to the existence of effective counter-measures.
The design philosophy reflects Imperial sensibilities as it is faster and more elegant than the corvette, but doesn't quite match it in firepower. As with other Imperial warships the cutter is also used for projecting soft power, via diplomatic missions and support for friendly powers. It is possible, although rare, for a well connected client or patron to own one of these ships. Like the corvette it can deploy two small fighter class ships.|In-game description}}The Imperial Cutter is manufactured by Gutamaya, and is the Imperial Navy's counterpart to the Federal Corvette.

The Imperial Cutter was added in the 1.5 "Ships" update in December, 2015.

The Cutter features 4 medium hardpoints: 2 on the nacelles and 2 on the belly; 2 large hardpoints on top of the ship and 1 huge hardpoint on the chin. Notably, the exterior lights on the ship change color from blue to red once hardpoints are deployed.

Frontier Developments also confirmed it will have bad manoeuvrability and a high top speed. It is the largest player piloted ship as of 1.5 Beta 3.

With its 792T cargo capacity it has the largest cargo bay a playable ship can have, topping the Type-9 with 260T more cargo space, over 48% more space, while having significantly better shields and speed than the Type-9. This will make it the most logical choice for traders.

Unlike the Type-9, it is extremely well-shielded, very fast (though not maneuverable) for its size, and reasonably well-armed, giving it far greater survivability and allowing some limited use of it as a combat ship, especially in the piracy role. In addition, with plenty of internals available to mount mining accessories while still leaving the largest open for cargo holds, excellent speed for moving from asteroid to asteroid, and a sufficiency of class 2 weapon mounts, the Cutter is unquestionably the best mining ship yet.

The Anaconda is currently the largest ship that is able to be piloted by a player in Elite Dangerous. Boasting an array of weapon hardpoints this ship is a formidable combat ship capable of holding its own against multiple opponents. It, the Fer-de-Lance and the upcoming Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter are the only ships capable of equipping the powerful Class 4 Plasma Accelerators and Cannons. Some traders also make use of this ship due to its high jump range, enormous cargo capacity (Surpassed only by the Lakon Type-9 Heavy and upcoming Core Dynamics Federal Corvette), and superb defensive capabilities. The only downside is the cost to upgrade and maintain the ship. Prices for modules will easily exceed 1 million credits.

The weapon hardpoint locations are as follows: Two Class 3 Large hardpoints top mounted side-by-side to each other in front of the cockpit and about 1/3 the ship length back from the front tip with slightly blocked aft line of sight. One Class 2 Medium hardpoint side mounted on each side near the front tip of the ship (2x Class 2 medium hardpoints total) with decent lines of sight. One Class 3 Large hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship, near the tip of the ship, with somewhat blocked aft line of sight. One Class 4 Huge hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship at about 1/3 of the ship length back from the front tip, mounted slightly lower than the underside class 3 hardpoint, with nearly uninterrupted forward and below lines of sight and somewhat blocked aft lines of sight. Two Class 1 Small hardpoints mounted on the underside of the ship, side-by-side to each other, at the very back of the large rectangular Cargo bay shaped area, with nearly uninterrupted lines of sight in all underside directions but have extremely limited firing arc convergence with the top mounted class 3 large hardpoints.
The PAGENAME is the mainstay superiority fighter of the Federation Intervention fleet. Deployed locally by Federation capital vessels, the Condor is meant to fly in large numbers to make up for the lack of its defensive capabilities. It can be seen in the Skirmish training scenario with two hardpoints.

The Condor is currently not flyable by players, but it is believed that it will become a flyable ship at some point in the game's future.

The Anaconda is currently the largest ship that is able to be piloted by a player in Elite: Dangerous. Boasting an array of weapon hardpoints this ship is a formidable combat ship capable of holding its own against multiple opponents. It is currently the only ship capable of equipping the powerful Class 4 Plasma Accelerators. Some traders also make use of this ship due to its high jump range, enormous cargo capacity (second only to the Lakon Type 9), and superb defensive capabilities.

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth game in the Elite series of games and was released on December 16, 2014. It was partially funded via a Kickstarter campaign.

New players start out with a Sidewinder Mk. I spacecraft and a small sum of Credits. They are able to trade, pirate, bounty-hunt, mine, explore, and salvage their way to wealth and fame.

Previous games in the series already had similar key game components, but Elite: Dangerous upgrades that with modern graphics. However, Elite: Dangerous also adds new features to the series, such as the concept of online multiplayer.

Elite: Dangerous takes place in the same universe as Frontier: Elite 2 and Frontier: First Encounters, 50 years after the events of FFE, in the year 3300AD - 3301AD. The Thargoid race, introduced in earlier games, will also appear.

</gallery>
Elite: Dangerous builds upon the foundations of the previous Elite titles, but aims to expand these ideas to a modern context.

Multiplayer vs Solo
The player may choose from the following: Solo Play, Private Channels (only friends or invited people will be encountered), or Open Play. In open play, you may be matched with any other player who is also in open play and happens to be on the same server.

The game works in a seamless, lobby-less way, with the ability to rendezvous with friends as the player chooses. This technology is already working and has been tested since the early betas, using a combination of peer-to-peer (to reduce lag) and server connections.

Depending on the player's chosen configuration, some of the other ships they meet as they travel around are real players as opposed to computer-controlled ships. It may be a friend the player has agreed to rendezvous with there, or it may be another real player that has been encountered by chance.

All players are part of a “Pilot’s Federation” – that is how they are distinguished from non-players – allowing players to differentiate between who player and non-player easily. The radar is used to distinguish a real player from a ship controlled by the computer. A player will show as a hollow square or triangle (indicating stowed or deployed hardpoints) while a ship controlled by the computer will appear as either a solid square or triangle.

Evolving Universe
Unlike previous games, the Elite: Dangerous universe will evolve. As players explore the galaxy, the different factions will be seen to spread to further star systems, colonising planets and building space stations. Players can participate in this process by completing missions for a particular faction to increase their influence in that system. This can eventually lead to war which players can then continue to help their chosen faction by participating in it.

New star ports will be slowly built in real time. These events will create opportunities for players as the resources and workers required for building will need to be transported and there will no doubt be related military missions and scope for increased piracy.

Procedural Content
Procedural generation of content is a technique where content is generated from rules. It abstracts repetitive or arbitrary elements of content creation in a very efficient way.

Imagine a medieval landscape. Laying out towns, roads, castles, farm land, forests and so on can be done by a system of rules – putting castles widely spaced out on vantage points, towns near rivers but under the protection of such a castle, roads between them, then with farm land to support them all. An artist can still design the castle, the houses in the towns, but this approach greatly magnifies the content that can be created. “Frontier” did this for the star systems, and planets, and with Elite: Dangerous, Frontier Developments will go further.

Destructible Ship Models
Larger ships will have multiple shield generators which can be targeted and will fail individually. This will add an extra level of skill where attackers can inflict hull damage by firing weapons at a single point and the prey navigates in a way that draws fire to working shields.

The operating shield radius on very large ships will also allow for very small fighters to be able to sneak under them and cause immediate damage to the hull.

Unlike previous Elite games where ships would simply explode once the hull integrity hit zero, the ship models will be divided in to sections so that damage will be localised to where weapon fire impacts. This means that, for example, the cargo hold can be exposed (shedding cargo) but thrusters, hyperdrives and weapons would not be affected.

Once a ship has been targeted, a subsystem can be specifically targeted, making it possible to attack specific modules to cause desired malfunctions. Frontier Developments have already hinted at future updates allowing for boarding of ships.

Player Roles
Unlike RPGs, players in Elite Dangerous will not choose their role by customising their character. Instead, the choice and customisation of their ship will be geared towards specific role(s). Examples cited are Trader, Miner, Explorer, Bounty Hunter and Pirate. However hybrid roles or new roles may be possible through updates or emergent gameplay e.g. mining.

In order to allow each player to explore each role they are able to own multiple ships and each can be customised to fill a certain role. When not in use a ship is stored in a station and can be retrieved by returning to that station at any time.

Trading
Trading in previous games was limited to a relatively small number of different commodities such as hydrogen fuel, precious metals, computers etc.
Traders in Elite: Dangerous have access to a large number of commodities both legal and illegal. Also present are "rare commodities" that are unique to a specific star system and increase in value the further from their origin they are sold.

Instead of static prices per star systems, stockmarkets will now respond to events going on in the vicinity such as war, famine, blockades etc. This creates the opportunity for players to "game" the stockmarkets by controlling supply and demand.

It won't just be commodities that can be traded. Game items can also be bought and sold, such as maps and permits.cite Players are also able to smuggle goods, needing to use precise management of heat in order to slip past station security forces.

Interdiction
A useful tactic for player roles involving combat. While travelling faster than light through a star system ships are able to be pulled back into real space by a ship equipped with a Frame Shift Drive Interdictor. This allows security forces, pirates, and bounty hunters to interact with other ships while travelling faster than light. Once initiated a mini-game will start forcing both players to concentrate on a single point at the center of their screens and hold it there to either succeed in pulling the other ship out into real space or escaping interdiction. This mechanic is demonstrated in this video.
Piracy
Players are able to steal cargo from other ships using a variety of means. They can employ hatch-breakers which when fired at an un-shielded target will latch onto the cargo hatch and extract cargo canisters from it. In addition, once shields have been dropped a player can shoot the cargo hatch manually to damage it which will have the same effect but in most cases takes more skill. Once stolen cargo has been scooped it can be smuggled and sold on the black market at stations and outposts that feature one.

Various combat events (e.g. performing tight turns, firing weapons) heat up the ship's hull, which will make the ship easier to be spotted on scanners, which in turn will make it easier for Pirates and Bounty Hunters to locate such ships. This means that players will be able to detect on-going battles and join in. David Braben has hinted at the ability for combatants to communicate with ships in the vicinity to "do deals".cite This may mean that the player may get a share of the profits if they save a trader from pirates or get a share in the loot if they don't mind getting a bounty on their head.

Bounty Hunting
Throughout the galaxy players will encounter computer controlled ships and other players that have fallen to a life of crime. Once scanned a player is able to see the current bounty issued to another commander. If destroyed in combat the player will receive a voucher that they can redeem at a station or outpost controlled by the faction that issued the bounty to get the reward.

As a result of this, many criminals seek refuge in systems with an anarchy status. Anarchy systems are not controlled by the Empire, Federation, Alliance, or an independent government and instead are ruled by a splinter faction. However, players are able to scan other ships in these systems with a kill warrant scanner in order to see if they are wanted in any other systems. Upon destroying them they will be able to travel to the system the bounty was issued in and claim it.
Mining
Players are able to mine resources from planetary ring systems and asteroid belts in orbit around stars. Once a mining laser and refinery module is equipped the player can fire at a suitable asteroid and use his cargo scoop to collect the raw materials. They can then be sold to a station or outpost on the commodities market.

Fuel Scooping
With a fuel scoop equipped a ship is able to gather fuel from certain types of stars. As the player needs to remain relatively close to the star in order to capture fuel from it, a careful balance between fuel scooped per second and heat gained needs to be observed. Fuel scoops can be upgraded in order to capture more fuel per second thereby speeding up the process. This is the life-blood of an explorer as once the boundaries of colonized space is left there are no stations or outposts left to refuel at.
Hyperdrives
Previous games tried to obey the laws of physics to a certain extent. This meant conventional thrusters were limited by the laws of relativity i.e. players could not travel faster than light within a star system. Frontier: Elite II used the Stardreamer feature as a realism/gameplay trade-off.

However, such a mechanism would not work in a multiplayer game, so Elite Dangerous features faster than light travel using hyperspace. Each ship comes equipped with a frame shift drive that allows them to travel to faster than light within a star system and to others. These drives can be upgraded to increase their range allowing for faster travel around the galaxy and long range exploration.

Landing On Planets
<gallery type="slideshow" widths="250" crop="true" hidebutton="true">
Wallpaper12.jpg|Concept art showing atmospheric entry
cloudscape.jpg|Concept art of flying through a planet's atmosphere
</gallery>
Frontier Developments took the decision to implement landing on planets as a future update. This gives them more time to implement a significant feature in a manner that they're happy with. Players will still be able to skim the atmosphere to scoop gases. For an insight into the rich experience planned for atmospheres, watch the procedural generation video above.
clr
Ship Customization
Ships can be customized to give the player control over the strengths and weaknesses of each. Modules within each ship are customized to affect how the ship performs and functions. Thrusters, sensors, frame shift drives, power plants, and more can all be upgraded to affect this. All customization takes place in the the outfitting screen when docked at a station or outpost.
clr
Readying Weapons
Weapon hardpoints on a ship can be either stowed or deployed. Other players in your vicinity have their weapons stowed your scanner will indicate a square symbol, this changes to a triangle when their weapons are deployed. NPC craft have solid squares/triangles, real players (Cmdrs) symbols are hollow.

Realistic Astrophysics
<gallery type="slideshow" widths="250" crop="true" hidebutton="true">
