The '''Alliance''', officially the '''Alliance of Independent Systems''', is one of the three galactic major [[factions]], the other two being the [[Federation]] and the [[Empire]]. Its political center is the system of [[Alioth]].

The Alliance was formed from a number of independent systems with the goal of gaining strength in numbers and defending, where necessary, against the other major factions.

Militarily, the cooperation is successful. Each member system contributes a portion of its navy to the Alliance Defence Force. The [[Council of Admirals]] is unified and has powers to act swiftly without [[government]] approval. Vessels of the Alliance generally bear the decals of their own navy, but display an additional Alliance Defence Force decal while operating with the unified naval force.

The Alliance was formed circa 3230 AD in Alioth, and portrays itself as a beacon of human rights and democracy in an increasingly autocratic universe. It does not conform to the political ideals of the totalitarian Empire, or the authoritarian Federation and there is much cultural variation among its members. This, however, means they often struggle to achieve political agreement. The [[President of the Alliance|presidency]] changes annually around its member systems. The current [[Alliance Prime Minister]] is [[Edmund Mahon]].

The Alliance does not contain ranks, instead featuring a complex permit scheme that restricts commanders' travel to Alliance systems.

==Permits==

Permits are required to access certain systems that are otherwise locked out by the computer of your [[Frame Shift Drive]] (FSD).

Such permits are rewarded by the controlling faction for that locked system, when you become allied with that faction. You can often find that faction on a [[station]] outside the main system they control.

Once allied, simply visit the [[Bulletin Board]] at any of the faction's stations to accept a job titled "Making Friends And Going Places". Accepting the job automatically adds the permit to your FSD computer.

Each Alliance Member State has a number of Council Members within the Alliance Assembly, based on the size of their respective populations. Some only have one. The Prime Minister is elected by the Members, and it is his or her job to corral them into some sort of consensus; generally a slow process. It is considered by some to be the most effective balance between firepower, manouvrebility, and protection currently available. In addition to being capable of holding its own against the larger [[Anaconda]] in a toe-to-toe frontal battle through its substantial protection and firepower, the Python''' '''is generally agile enough to comfortably deal with smaller fighter classes without having to rely on turret mounts.

The Python can also serve as a heavily armed freighter in that it can carry 284 T of cargo with a class 3 [[shield]] module fitted, or 292 T with no shield fitted, both of which is more cargo than the [[Type-7 Transporter]] can carry without shields fitted (Before the 2.2 update). Additionally, besides being able to carry more cargo while retaining shields, the Python can dock at [[Outpost]]s since it utilizes medium sized landing pads. However, the downside to trading with a Python is its short jump range when fully loaded.

The weapon hard points are located as follows: two large hardpoints located either side of the ships spine around the midship, and two medium points located slightly behind the cockpit. The final large hardpoint is located on the underside of the nose section. The nose mounted hardpoint has good vertical field of fire when gimballed or turreted (considering its location) which gives the Python a good field of fire where all weapon hardpoints can track and hit a target (when gimballed or turreted).

The pilot's station is offset to the left of centerline and is parallel to the auxiliary station which is offset to the right.

The Python has an available 16 piece cosmetic ship kit that can be purchased from the [https://www.frontierstore.net/usd/game-extras/elite-dangerous-game-extras/python-ship-kit-16-pieces.html Frontier store] which allows you to "remodel your ship in your personal style". The ship kit does not affect gameplay.
